Tynna

Tynna was a planet in the Expansion Region that was placed along the Shipwrights' Trace hyperspace route and was home to the aquatic, sentient Tynnan species. It was occupied by the Separatist Alliance during the Clone Wars, but the Galactic Republic successfully harried the occupiers on Tynna by sending at least one commando team to work with local freedom fighters. Senator Streamdrinker of Tynna signed the Petition of 2,000 as a protest against Republic Chancellor Sheev Palpatine's emergency powers.

After Palpatine transformed the Republic into the Galactic Empire, Streamdrinker and sixty-two other senators were arrested under accusations of colluding with an alleged Jedi insurgency. By 4 BBY, the rebel cell Deep Current carried out intelligence operations out of Tynna and the Shipwrights' Trace. Davits Draven, a general in Senator Mon Mothma's organized rebellion against the Empire, sent a classified document to Mothma on rebel cells like Deep Current, suggesting ways that the rebellion could use them in.

Tynna was a terrestrial planet^[3] located in the Expansion Region. Situated in grid square N-14 of the Standard Galactic Grid, it lay along the Shipwrights' Trace hyperspace route between the astronomical objects Chardaan and Allanteen VI.^[1]

Clone Wars[]

During the Clone Wars,^[2] a pan-galactic, three-year-long war between the Galactic Republic and the Separatist Alliance that began in 22 BBY,^[4] the Separatists occupied Tynna, but the Republic retaliated by sending at least one commando squad there. Inspired by the Republic's success at the Battle of Ryloth, the commandos liaised with local freedom fighters on Tynna to sabotage and harrass the Separatists. The Republic achieved a degree of success on Tynna but drew criticism about unfairly exposing the local citizens to reprisals from the occupation forces.^[3]

Toward the end of the Clone Wars, Senator Streamdrinker, who represented Tynna in the Republic's Galactic Senate, joined around two thousand legislators known as the Delegation of 2,000 in signing the Petition of 2,000. The petition acted as a formal protest calling for the Republic Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine to give up his emergency powers and seek peace with the Separatists. The petition was presented during a full Senate session.^[2]

The Clone Wars ended in 19 BBY with the fall of the Separatists and the Republic's eradication of the Jedi Order, with all Jedi being labeled public enemies of the Republic. Palpatine reorganized the Republic into the Galactic Empire with himself as the Galactic Emperor.^[4] A day after the Empire's founding, Streamdrinker and sixty-two other senators that had signed the Petition of 2,000 were accused of having colluded with an alleged Jedi insurgency and subsequently arrested. Following the arrests, HoloNet News,^[2] the Empire's official state-sanctioned news agency,^[5] reported on the incident, where it released a partial list of those taken into custody including Streamdrinker of Tynna. Any senator that professed their loyalty to the Empire was released thereafter.^[2]

By 4 BBY,^[6] a rebel cell known as Deep Current worked against the Empire at Tynna and along the Shipwrights' Trace. Led by the Tynnan Saltbite, the group was primarily an intelligence operation that used the Tynnans' bureaucratic abilities to gather lots of data about Imperial Rim deployments and shipyard cargo traffic. Being one of the largest rebel cells operating in Imperial space, Deep Current was vetted by Davits Draven, a general in a larger organized rebellion against the Empire secretly led by Senator Mon Mothma, a former leading member of the Delegation of 2,000.^[2]

Draven made a classified document on the Tynnan rebel cell and other major resistance groups operating in Imperial space for Mothma, noting that Deep Current could supply the rebellion with data in return for protection. The classified document, as well as the news report on the Senatorial arrests, was eventually collected by archivist Hendri Underholt, who included it in the compilation of non-electronic documents known as The Rebel Files.^[2]
