Sai'torr Kal Fas was Saurin female who was a skilled warrior, serving as bodyguard for her cousin Hrchek Kal Fas. Hrchek wisely kept her close when the pair visited Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in Mos Eisley spaceport on the planet Tatooine in 0 BBY. While there, the two Saurins witnessed the bartender Wuher shout at the moisture farmer Luke Skywalker about droids that he had brought in with him, and later turned to watch when Skywalker got into a conflict with the two criminals Doctor Cornelius Evazan and Ponda Baba, which ended with the Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi cutting down the criminals with his lightsaber.

Sai'torr Kal Fas was a Saurin female who served as bodyguard for her cousin Hrchek Kal Fas.^[1] In 0 BBY,^[3] the pair were both working as traders and visited Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in Mos Eisley spaceport on the planet Tatooine, where the locals knew the two Saurins as "Crockers."^[4] Hrchek wisely kept Sai'torr close while at the cantina^[5] and the Saurin were stood a few places apart at the bar when the local moisture farmer Luke Skywalker entered with the Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO.^[2]

Sai'torr was speaking to a human at the bar with her back to Skywalker until^[2] the Snivvian Zutton^[6] took the human's place. Sai'torr, Zutto,n and Hrchek all then turned to stare at Skywalker when the bartender,^[2] Wuher,^[4] shout at the farmer that droids were not allowed inside the cantina. Sai'torr then turned back to talk to Zutton as Skywalker sent the droids outside. With the human having returned to the bar beside Sai'torr, her attention was once again drawn to Skywalker when he was confronted at the bar by the two criminals Doctor Cornelius Evazan and Ponda Baba. After Kenobi tried to intervene, Evazan threw Skywalker to the floor, causing the Jedi to slash the two criminals with his lightsaber.^[2]

Kenobi then looked challengingly around the room^[7] and Sai'torr, Hrchek,^[2] and the other patrons returned blithely to their drinks.^[7] Sai'torr spoke to the human patron and^[2] the Morseerian Nabrun Leids^[6] at the bar while Skywalker and Kenobi joined a table with the smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca. The bodyguard remained in the conversation as Imperial stormtroopers entered the cantina and passed by her, prompting Skywalker and Kenobi to leave. The two cousins were then stood together at the bar and watched as Solo tipped Wuher as he left, having shot the bounty hunter Greedo.^[2]

"On my first days filming of the Cantina scenes, I remember sitting with Pam Rose, Leesub Sirln, wondering if I should introduce myself to the other Saurin, Barbara Frankland, but we were eventually placed together, and we spoke about the difficulties we had in breathing through the helmets. I explained that if you put a hand into the mouth, it would be better ventilation, which she did, and there are photos of her doing exactly that."

Sai'torr Kal Fas was portrayed by Barbara Frankland^[8] in the 1977 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.^[2] The cantina scenes that she appears in were filmed between April 13 and April 22, 1976 on Stage 6 at Elstree Studios.^[9] On set, Franklin and Laurie Goode, who portrayed Hrchek Kal Fas, discussed how difficult it was to breathe in the Saurin masks, with Goode giving Franklin a tip about putting your hand into the mask's mouth to ventilate it better, which Franklin then did.^[8] The Saurins initially wore green dish gloves with warts and scales on while on set, but when these peeled too much they were replaced with just normal dish gloves.^[10]

Costume designer John Mollo drew a concept sketch of the Saurins, labeled as "Crocker"^[9] with the name "Gila-Men" also applied to the pair.^[11] Sai'torr Kal Fas's mask and that of Hrchek Kal Fas were created by creature designer Stuart Freeborn and based on a crocodile, which earned the pair their "Crocker" nickname among the film crew. Hrcheck's was altered to be used for the character Bossk in the 1980 sequel to A New Hope, Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, while Sai'torr's remained unaltered and ended up in the private collection of ScienceFictionArchives.com.^[12]

In the current Star Wars canon, Sai'torr Kal Fas was first identified in the mobile card game Star Wars: Force Collection,^[1] which initially launched in 2013. Although the launch of Force Collection predates^[13] the Star Wars canon reset of 2014,^[14] Lucasfilm Story Group member Leland Chee confirmed that the game was kept updated to fit with canon.^[15] The character's name originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where she was first identified on a card in the 1995 Premiere Limited expansion set for the Star Wars Customizable Card Game produced by Decipher, Inc.^[16] There were plans for one of the two Saurin to be official named "Gilaass," but this name was never used.^[11]
