Pra-Tre Veter was a Tarnab male[2] Jedi Master and a member of the Jedi High Council who lived during the High Republic Era.[6] Alongside Yoda, Ry Ki-Sakka,[7] and Xo Lahru, Pra-Tre served as one of several active Grand Masters of the Jedi Order during the High Republic Era.

Nine months after the fall of Starlight Beacon in 230 BBY, Veter was captured by Nihil member Melis Shryke and delivered to Marchion Ro as a prisoner. After undergoing torture—including the loss of his arm—for nearly a year, he was executed through use of the Nameless on a live broadcast in 229 BBY, on the anniversary of Starlight's destruction, in order to make an example to the Galactic Republic and Jedi.

Biography[]

Scalvi crisis[]

Pra-Tre Veter

By 250 BBY,[8] Pra-Tre Veter had joined the Jedi High Council.[9] When he was still new to the Council, it became aware of a crisis with the Scalvi on the planet Turrak in the Outer Rim. Though urged by the other Masters of the Council to aid the Scalvi, Veter felt the issue beneath the Council's attention, much to the chagrin of his fellow Masters. Unable to endure their scolding, Veter offered to go to Turrak and resolve the crisis so that it may be done quickly. However, Yoda insisted on going personally over Veter's objections.[10]

Sometime later, Pra-Tre and Jedi Master Ela Sutan rendezvoused with Yoda aboard the Wheel in the Besh Gorgon system. Veter rebuffed Yoda's invitation to visit Turrak, citing the needs of the Council, and unsuccessfully attempted to convince Yoda to return to Coruscant. Neither Veter nor Sutan were impressed with Yoda's ability to play the taratti, a Scalvi instrument, and Yoda departed shortly thereafter to return to Turrak.[11] Yoda returned to Coruscant a short time afterwards out of disappointment in the violence on Turrak.[12]

Years after Yoda returned to Coruscant, he paid a visit to the Scalvi on Turrak. During his brief stay, Pra-Tre contacted him from the Council chamber on Coruscant to confirm that he was not staying long this time. Veter lamented that he did not take Yoda up on his offer to visit Turrak and offered to send Jedi aid to restore Turrak's oceans. Veter admitted that he had been wrong about the Scalvi during the crisis the species faced and thanked Yoda for teaching him the proper way to handle such situations.[12]

Grand Master[]

By 232 BBY,[13] Veter served as one of the three Grand Masters of the Jedi Order,[6] alongside Masters Yoda[5] and Xo Lahru.[14] In the same year,[13] Veter and Yoda traveled to the space station Starlight Beacon to grant Master Avar Kriss the title of marshal of the space station.[5]

After the destruction of Starlight Beacon[15] in 230 BBY,[16] Veter alongside fellow Grand Master Lahru and Master Soleil Agra sent out an urgent transmission on behalf of Yoda and the Jedi High Council to all Jedi informing them of the station's fall. They warned the members of the Order to avoid the Outer Rim Territories as the Nihil continued their attacks, before finishing the message by requesting that all Jedi regroup on Coruscant.[15] In 229 BBY,[1] Veter was executed by the Nihil during a trial broadcasted across the galaxy.[3]

Personality and traits[]

As a new member of the Jedi High Council, Pra-Tre Veter was cautious and held the Council, and his position on it, in high-esteem. His attention often lingered on the needs of Coruscant and the stressed the importance of Council members being present at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where he believed they were needed most. He was sometimes critical of the Council expending resources on lesser known species in the galaxy, believing that the Jedi High Council served more important matters.[10] Years after the fact, with counseling from Yoda, Veter understood the importance of patience and helping all beings.[12]

Skills and abilities[]

Pra-Tre Veter knew the ancient Force technique of Shon-Ju unarmed combat.[17]

Equipment[]

As a Jedi, Veter wielded a blue-bladed lightsaber.[18] He also had a cane made from native tarn trees.[3]
