"Debris approaches the Trymant system! Celestial bodies in the danger zone include Korbatal, Ost Molkar, Taz Molkar, Trymant III, and Trymant IV."
―Mari San Tekka[4]

Ost Molkar was a moon of the planet Trymant IV, a world in the Outer Rim and Western Reaches regions of the galaxy. During the Great Hyperspace Disaster in 232 BBY, the moon was destroyed by an Emergence—a collection of hyperspace debris from the destroyed Legacy Run freighter that entered realspace. By 3 ABY, during the Imperial Era, records of the destruction of Trymant IV's moons—including Ost Molkar—were accessible in certain databases.

Description[]

Ost Molkar was a moon of[5] the Outer Rim planet[7] Trymant IV,[5] which itself orbited the Trymant system's binary star.[8] As a Trymant system moon, Ost Molkar was situated in the Western Reaches[3] and in square L-20 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[6] One of Trymant IV's other moons—Praknat 3—occupied the closest orbit to the planet compared to the world's other moons,[8] including Ost Molkar.[5]

History[]

Zagyar: "Again, already? Maybe the info is wrong?"
Marchion Ro: "It's not wrong."
Kisma Uttersond: "…Taz Molkar, Trymant III, and Trymant IV."

Mari San Tekka (pictured) warned the Nihil of an impending Emergence, indicating that Ost Molkar was in danger.

During the High Republic Era, the Galactic Republic designated a section of the Outer Rim—which included Trymant IV[2] and therefore its moons[5]—as the Galactic Frontier, locations considered removed far enough from the galaxy's center to dispatch explorers to.[2] In 232 BBY, the Great Hyperspace Disaster spurred Emergences—parts of hyperspace debris from the destroyed Legacy Run freighter—to start emerging in realspace and striking celestial bodies throughout the galaxy.[9] The hyperspace savant Mari San Tekka—who was being kept captive by Nihil marauders—determined one such Emergence would impact several locations in the Trymant system, including Ost Molkar, in the near future. Doctor Kisma Uttersond relayed the warning to the Nihil's leader Marchion Ro, prompting the latter to depart for the Trymant system before the Emergences struck.[4]

Ultimately, Ost Molkar[5] was struck by an Emergence[10] and destroyed.[5] In the aftermath, information detailing the disaster in the system was stored by the Jedi Order.[8] By the time of the Galactic Empire's reign, records of the incident in the Trymant system remained accessible in certain databases. At one point[10] by 3 ABY,[11] intern journalist Parazeen Parapa reviewed the event's files and learned of the destruction of Trymant IV's moons while interviewing the bounty hunters Zuckuss and 4-LOM. Parapa included his findings in an article he was writing for the Galactic Digest magazine, which was later read and annotated by Chief Editor Droid TK-7 of the publication's Culture Desk.[10]

Behind the scenes[]

Ost Molkar was first mentioned by name in "Tales of Villainy: The Gaze Electric," a secondary comic story published in the sixth issue of the 2020 Star Wars Adventures anthology comic-book series. The story was written by Daniel José Older and the comic issue was published by IDW Publishing[4] on July 7, 2021.[12] On Twitter, Older confirmed that Ost Molkar was one of the several Trymant IV moons indirectly mentioned in "STET!,"[5] one of the author's short stories. The story was released in 2020 as part of the From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back anthology, thus retroactively making "STET!" Ost Molkar's first indirect mention.[10]
