Niles Gavla was a human male who served the Galactic Empire as a lieutenant. Stationed on Scarif, he served as the planet-side administrative support liaison for the defenses officer based on the Death Star.[3] Gavla was present aboard the Death Star's Overbridge during the destruction of Jedha City along with a group of other Imperial officers including Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, Director of Advanced Weapons Research Orson Callan Krennic, General Hurst Romodi, Captain Dunstig Pterro, and others. Gavla stood behind Tarkin as the Grand Moff applauded Director Krennic's efforts in bringing the battle station to operational status.[4] Gavla was killed at the conclusion of the Battle of Scarif, when the Death Star targeted the Imperial Center of Military Research on Scarif. He was a graduate of the Imperial-run Carida Academy.[2]

Gavla first appeared in Gareth Edwards' 2016 anthology film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, where he was played by an uncredited extra.[4] He was identified in the reference book Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide by Pablo Hidalgo.[3]
