Lumas was a human Padawan of the Jedi Order. In 22 BBY, Lumas was part of a Jedi assault team led by Jedi Master Mace Windu that traveled to the planet Geonosis in order to try and rescue Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi. Lumas[2] was a human member of the Jedi Order during the Separatist Crisis, in which a separatist faction threatened to break away from the Galactic Republic that the Jedi were sworn to protect. While a Padawan[1] in 22 BBY,[3] Lumas was part of an assault team[1] of 212 Jedi[4] under the command of Jedi Master Mace Windu who traveled to the planet Geonosis in order to rescue Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Jedi Knight who had been captured while spying on the Separatists.[1]

Upon arriving on Geonosis, the Jedi infiltrated the Petranaki Arena, where the Separatists were in the process of holding an public execution for Kenobi, his Padawan Anakin Skywalker, and Republic Senator Padmé Amidala. After the prisoners had managed to free themselves, Windu confronted Separatist leader, Count Dooku, and revealed the presence of the assault team, who then emerged within the arena. The Separatists then deployed a droid army to the arena, and Lumas was among the Jedi who engaged the battle droids on the arena floor.[1]

In the arena[]

Lumas (second from left) fought droids in the arena.

During the fighting, Lumas was deflecting blaster fire with a lightsaber when a Jedi next to the Padawan deflected a bolt back at a battle droid whose head had been swapped onto the body of protocol droid C-3PO, beheading the droid. The droid forces eventually overwhelmed the Jedi in the arena, surronding a circle of survivors that did not include Lumas. Grand Master Yoda then arrived with clone trooper reinforcements and rescued those in the circle.[1]

Out of the two hundred and twelve Jedi deployed to the arena, only twenty-nine returned. However, the Jedi and Republic were ultimately victorious in the battle, which marked the start of the Clone Wars. In the days following the battle, Padawan Iskat Akaris realised that she had not seen Lumas or the Padawans Tan Yuster or Galdos Stouff since Geonosis when thinking about how many Jedi had been lost.[2]

Personality and traits[]

Lumas had light skin and blonde hair.[1]

Equipment[]

While on Geonosis, Lumas wore a dark brown tunic with light brown pants, a brown belt, and brown boots. The Padawan used a blue lightsaber.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Lumas was portrayed by stuntman Dean Gould[5] in the prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones,[1] which released on May 16, 2002.[6] The Jedi battle in the Petranaki Arena scenes were filmed on Stage 3 at Fox Studios, Sydney, between August 10 and August 15, 2000.[7] In the current Star Wars canon, the character was identified as Lumas in the 2023 novel Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Blade, written by Delilah S. Dawson.[2] The name originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where the character was first identified as Lumas Etima by the Star Wars Saga Daily Calendar 2003,[8] released on August 1, 2002.[9]
