"Excuse me, Siro, but we'd like to ask you about your feud with Seeg. Is the bad blood still there?"
―Kaini, to Siro Simito[1]

Kaini was a female Human Rebel Alliance agent who organized pick-ups of data storage media for secret deliveries by the racing pilot Siro Simito. In one instance, she posed as a holovid reporter who annoyed Simito prior to the start of the Dahvil-Fodro Hyperspace Promenade race on the celestial body Dahvil. Pretending to lash out in annoyance at her questions, Simito sliced off the lens of Kaini's cam droid—which contained the data module that the racer was supposed to deliver and which Simito subsequently picked up.

Biography[]

"As usual, Kaini has done a good job, and no one in the crowd realizes that it has all been an act. I know that the data module I am scheduled to deliver is hidden in the casing of the lens, so I pick it up and put it in my pouch. Then I hold my axe up high over my head and the crowd cheers again."
―Siro Simito, report on the Dahvil-Fodro Hyperspace Promenade[1]

Kaini was an agent of the Rebel Alliance. During the Galactic Civil War, she facilitated the secret delivery of information to Rebel contacts by the interstellar racing pilot Siro Simito, arranging for the latter to pick up the data storage media in public.[1]

On one occasion, shortly before the start of the popular Star Rally race known as the Dahvil-Fodro Hyperspace Promenade, Kaini posed as a holovid reporter from[1] the Mid Rim[2] world[3] Ord Dorlass—the racing route's first stopping point—and was present at the race's staging area on[1] the Outer Rim Territories'[2] celestial body Dahvil. She was accompanied by a cam droid that had the data module that was to be delivered to the celestial body Fait d'Fait hidden in the casing of its supertelephoto lens.[1]

In a sequence known to Simito, Kaini and the droid approached the racer while he was walking through the crowd of spectators and pushed their equipment into his face. The supposed reporter enquired as to the current status of Simito's feud with his rival, Seeg, which the racer pretended to be annoyed by. Upon Kaini's insistence on asking about Simito's competitor, Kaini's fellow undercover Rebel agent lashed out by using his vibro-ax to slice off the cam droid's lens. The supposed holovid crew then turned and ran away from the scene, and Simito's outburst was cheered on by the crowd, which—despite relying on the holovids for news on the races—disliked reporters.[1]

Simito subsequently picked up the sliced-off lens and went on to make the planned delivery. He later made a report on his activities during that race, noting that Kaini had once again performed well in executing the hand-off. At some point by the time that shortly followed the Battle of Yavin, Rebel Alliance General Airen Cracken included excerpts from the report, including one describing Kaini's actions, in a datafile detailing various Rebel operatives.[1]

"If you mention that name to me again, I'll chop ya in half."
"But Siro, Seeg said that he would—"

Kaini was able to pass off as a holovid reporter in front of a crowd of interstellar racing spectators.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Kaini was created by Chuck Truett and was introduced in Cracken's Rebel Operatives, a 1994 West End Games sourcebook published for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[1]
