The Humbarine sector, also known as Humbarine Rule, was located in the Core Worlds. It contained the city-planet Humbarine, one of the founding members of the Galactic Republic, and several manufacturing worlds, being one of the Republic's most industrialized and wealthy sectors during the time prior to the Clone Wars.

During that conflict, the Confederacy of Independent Systems carried out many devastating attacks on the sector's worlds, including an orbital bombardment of Humbarine. The Republic's mismanagement caused heavy losses in the Humbarine sector, and it was eventually abandoned as a lost cause. After the formation of the Galactic Empire, the Humbarine system was situated within the territory controlled by that government.

Description[]

The Humbarine sector,[6] alternatively known as Humbarine Rule, was a sterile region[7] of the Arrowhead, which was itself the Slice portion of the Core Worlds.[2] The hyperlane known as the Trellen Trade Route passed through[7] the sector's[1] Humbarine system, linking it to the Trellen system as well as the Colonies' Commenor system.[7]

History[]

BarrowOicunn

During the Clone Wars, Barrow Oicunn fought in the defense of the Humbarine sector.

In the centuries preceding the Clone Wars,[8] the Humbarine sector was one of the wealthiest sectors of the galaxy[9] and among the most industrialized parts of the Galactic Republic, in that aspect only being rivaled by the Corellian and Kuat sectors,[6] also situated in the Core.[1] During that time, many larger and more powerful warships than the later 752-meter-long Acclamator-class assault ship were constructed for the defense of the Humbarine sector, but those vessels were only equipped with local-range hyperdrives[8] due to the regulations set forth by the Ruusan Reformation of 1000 BBY. Two decades before the Clone Wars, Kuat Drive Yards created the eight-kilometer-long Mandator-class Star Dreadnaught for use in the Kuat sector defense fleet, and by the time of that conflict, the Humbarine sector had also acquired a vessel of the class.[9]

Senator Bana Breemu represented the Humbarine sector in the Republic's Galactic Senate during the Clone Wars,[4] and during the first campaigns of the conflict in 22 BBY, the Republic's Second Sector Army was tasked with engaging the military forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems in vicinity of the Humbarine system.[9] As an important area of the Republic, the Humbarine sector had the fleet of its local defense forces organized under the Republic's war council.[10]

Despite the inspired tactics of the Humbarine sector defense forces' junior officer Barrow Oicunn, however,[10] Republic mismanagement led to heavy losses in the sector.[11] Some of the Humbarine sector's worlds joined the Confederacy, providing it with key industrial resources.[6] Many others were infiltrated,[4] conquered, or ravaged by the Confederate forces.[12] The sector's capital,[3] Humbarine, came under repeated devastating attacks led by General Grievous,[10] which, in around 20.2 BBY,[13] culminated in an orbital bombardment that depopulated the planet and melted its crust.[5] Due to the losses suffered in the Humbarine sector, Senator Breemu found her political influence waning,[4] and the Republic eventually abandoned the sector as a lost cause.[10]

Locations[]

Humbarine

The Humbarine sector's capital was the city-world of the same name.

The Humbarine sector contained several industrious[14] manufacturing planets, and the city-planet Humbarine, located in the system of the same name,[7] served as its capital.[3] Humbarine was settled by Human colonization arks from the planet Kuat of the nearby Kuat system. In turn, Humbarine eventually established colony worlds of its own and eventually became one of the founding members of the Galactic Republic[7] upon that government's establishment in 25,053 BBY.[15]

During the Great Sith War of 3996 BBY, Republic naval forces passed through the Humbarine system on their way to engage the Mandalorian Crusaders in the Inner Rim's Japrael system. Humbarine was subjected to a devastating orbital bombardment during the Clone Wars,[7] and its system was situated within the territory of the Galactic Empire after its formation in 19 BBY.[9]

In 25 ABY, the military forces of the New Republic passed through the Humbarine system on their way to engage the extra-galactic Yuuzhan Vong invaders at the Fondor system of the Colonies. Three years later, the New Republic forces once again transited the system when preparing for a confrontation with the Yuuzhan Vong in the Deep Core's Treskov system.[7]

Behind the scenes[]

The Humbarine sector was first mentioned in the 2002 reference book Star Wars: Attack of the Clones Incredible Cross-Sections by Curtis Saxton.[16] The planet Humbarine, and therefore the sector, first appeared in the non-canonical 2009 mobile game Star Wars: Jedi Mind Tricks,[17] and on August 18, 2009,[18] the reference book The Essential Atlas by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry coined the alternative name "Humbarine Rule" for the sector.[7]
