"Soon the Eye of Sion will be complete and we shall deliver Grand Admiral Thrawn from his exile in the far galaxy."
―Morgan Elsbeth[2]

The Far Galaxy[3] was a barred spiral galaxy that was one of trillions of galaxies in the observable universe and was distant from the galaxy of the New Republic. It contained the planet Peridea, home to the great Witch Kingdom of the Dathmiri, an ancient civilization, and the location of Grand Admiral Thrawn's exile.

The other galaxy's planet Seatos had a henge that marked the Pathway to Peridea. Morgan Elsbeth, a follower of Thrawn and a Dathomiri Nightsister, built the interstellar hyperspace transport ring named the Eye of Sion to retrieve Thrawn and his stranded forces.

History[]

Ancient times[]

"I see what once was the great Witch Kingdom of the Dathmiri. The existence of the Great Mothers confirms this."
―Baylan Skoll[1]
Peridea-Ahsoka-PartSix

Peridea was once the heart of the Witch Kingdom of the Dathmiri.

The far galaxy[4] contained the planet Peridea, the homeworld of the Witch Kingdom of the Dathmiri. These beings were led by the Great Mothers, who built a towering fortress with an underground temple and a tall spire topped by a circular henge. They also used purrgil to travel the Intergalactic void between galaxies.[1] They also established a henge on the planet Seatos in the galaxy of the Nightsisters to point the Pathway to Peridea.[2] A star map which led to Peridea was also hidden at a former Nightsister stronghold on Arcana.[5]

Rediscovery[]

"That is Peridea. The ancient home world of my ancestors, the Dathomiri."
"The Jedi archives spoke of this place. It was the end of a migration route used by the star whales as they traversed the void from one galaxy to the other."
"My people were among the first to harness and ride the creatures in the days before time was counted."
"The whales came here to die. Peridea is a graveyard."
―Morgan Elsbeth and Baylan Skoll, upon reaching the far galaxy[1]

During the Liberation of Lothal, a pod of purrgil carried Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Jedi rebel Ezra Bridger to Peridea.[2] On Peridea, Thrawn rebuilt his Imperial Star Destroyer Chimaera but the damaged starship was unable to return to their home galaxy. Thrawn also awoke the Great Mothers, establishing an alliance between his forces and the ancient Dathomirians.[6] Bridger escaped the Imperials and became the leader of a nomadic Noti clan.[7]

Seven years later, during the era of the New Republic, Imperial loyalist and Nightsister Morgan Elsbeth ordered the construction of a massive hyperspace transport ring known as the Eye of Sion in order to bring Thrawn back to the known galaxy.[2] Around that time, the former Jedi Ahsoka Tano discovered the Arcana star map. Her former apprentice Sabine Wren managed to unlock the map but it was stolen by Shin Hati, a mercenary working for Elsbeth.[5] Following a duel with Tano and Wren on Seatos, Baylan Skoll, Hati's master and another one of Elsbeth's mercenaries, managed to unlock the star map and relay the hyperspace coordinates to Peridea to Elsbeth. Elsbeth's forces then departed on the Eye of Sion with the captive Wren for Peridea.[8] Using the pathway, Elsbeth's forces reached Peridea where they established contact with the Great Mothers and Thrawn's forces.[1] There, they spent three cycles loading caskets from the catacombs beneath the Great Mothers' Fortress.[6]

Tano and the Jedi training droid Huyang also traveled to the Far Galaxy with the help of a purrgil pod and reunited with Wren and Bridger.[7] Following a skirmish with Tano, Wren and Bridger, Thrawn, the Great Mothers and his Star Destroyer Chimaera managed to escape Peridea and traveled to Dathomir in the home galaxy via the Eye of Sion. While Tano, Wren and Huyang were stranded on Peridea, Bridger managed to stow aboard the Chimaera and reunited with General Hera Syndulla. Hati also joined the Bandits of Peridea while Skoll sought a mysterious power on the planet that was seemingly connected to the mystical beings known as The Ones.[6]

Behind the scenes[]

The Far Galaxy first appeared in the Disney+ television series Ahsoka, released in 2023.[9] However, the extra-galactic location itself had existed in some form since 2018 at least; according to Timothy Zahn in an interview at Dragon Con 2018, the location where Grand Admiral Thrawn had been sent to by the purrgil after "Family Reunion – and Farewell," the series finale of Star Wars Rebels, had already been decided by that time.[10] The name "far galaxy" was used within Ahsoka "Part Two: Toil and Trouble"[2] and the galaxy's official Databank page, both in lower case letters.[4] A capitalized form of the name was featured in Star Wars Insider.[3]
