The BD unit, a model of explorer droid
An explorer droid[1] was a type of droid that assisted individuals in remote or dangerous locations. One such model was the BD unit, which was designed to be an assistant to explorers or researchers who operated alone in the field. The BD unit BD-1[2] accompanied the Jedi Master Eno Cordova, and later the former Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis.[3]
These droid types were designed to store and gather information. BD-1 was able to scan objects and present information about the item to Kestis. BD-1 could also project holograms of his old master that were stored within him.[3] In 9 ABY,[4] the unit BD-72[5] projected holographic building instructions for an N-1 Starfighter to the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin.[6]
