- "Beedee units are some of the best explorers in the galaxy, and you won't find a better example than this little guy right here. Beeps in the face of danger."
- ―Cal Kestis, on BD-1
BD units, also called BD Explorer Droids, were a model of explorer droid.
Characteristics[]
BD units were companion droids designed to assist with operations in remote and dangerous locations across the galaxy; programmed to be the ideal assistant to researchers or explorers operating alone in the field, they were designed to traverse all types of terrain.[2] As a result of their manufacturer collapsing, BD units were a relatively rare sight in the galaxy.[4] A type of similar[5] looking and similarly named droid, the BDX droid, also existed but was much larger in scale.[7]
History[]
One such droid was BD-1, who accompanied Jedi Master Eno Cordova, and later the Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis[5] in 14 BBY.[8] Another BD unit was TA-418, who assisted Doctor Eustacia Okka, former professor at the Shadow University institution, during the Imperial Era.[3] BD-72 was another BD unit who was under the ownership of Peli Motto[9] around 9 ABY.[10]
Behind the scenes[]
The BD unit first appeared in the 2019 video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.[5] It made its live action debut in "Chapter 5: Return of the Mandalorian,"[9] the fifth episode of the Disney+ television series The Book of Boba Fett, which was released on January 26, 2022.[11]
