Epfer-hens were a type of chicken that could be eaten as food. During the High Republic Era, the Nihil I'nah's cruiser kept roasted epfer-hen available in the vessel's galley. While on the cruiser[1] in 229 BBY,[2] the aspiring pirate Zyle Keem visited the galley and began taking food, staring unblinkingly at the Nihil nearby as they shoved half a roasted epfer-hen in their clothing. Afterward, Keem fled with the provisions in an escape shuttle to travel to the Outer Rim planet Valo.[1]

Epfer-hens appeared as food in Escape from Valo, a 2024 junior novel written by Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[3]
