"Your father sounds like an interesting man. I would've liked to have known him."
"He was a great man. He died defending Mandalore."
"This is the Way."
Din Djarin and Bo-Katan Kryze[4]

Duke Adonai Kryze was the Mandalorian father of Satine Kryze[2] and Bo-Katan Kryze.[5] He was part of House Kryze, that was the royal family of the Mandalorians.[4] A few decades prior to Clone Wars, Kalevala's House Kryze occupied a leading position among the Mandalorian clans, with Adonai Kryze, Duke of Kalevala being the leader of the Mandalorian during this time.[3] When Bo-Katan was a child, she took the Mandalorian Creed by performing a Mandalorian initiation ritual in the Living Waters in the Mines of Mandalore, and was showered with gifts, while Adonai looked on proudly.[4]

Around 41 BBY,[6] escalating tensions between Mandalorian clans led to the outbreak of the Great Clan Wars. During the wars, Kryze emerged as a warlord of House Kryze and gained respect from his enemies, including Death Watch. Kryze realized through the long course of the war that constant fighting would not bring prosperity for Mandalore, and thus he sent his daughter, Satine Kryze to Galactic Republic capital of Coruscant to study diplomacy. On Mandalore, he was killed during the war[3] while defending the planet,[4] and was succeeded by his pacifistic daughter, Duchess Satine Kryze. Death Watch leader Pre Vizsla considered Satine unworthy to lead the Mandalorians, and so planned an alliance with Count Dooku.[2]

According to Bo-Katan, he was a great man.[4]

  6. According to The Official Star Wars Fact File Part 98 (MAN 1-4, Mandalore), the Mandalorian Civil War took place around 20 years before the Clone Wars. Star Wars: Galactic Atlas establishes that the Clone Wars took place starting in 22 BBY through 19 BBY. Therefore, the Mandalorian Civil War can be dated to around 42 BBY to 39 BBY. By the time of Padawan, which Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of to 41 BBY, author Kiersten White establishes that the novel's plot was explicitly written to convey that he had not met Satine Kryze. As Obi-Wan Kenobi is established to have met Kryze during the Mandalorian Civil War in TCW mini logo Star Wars: The Clone Wars — "Voyage of Temptation", the war must have taken place between around 41 BBY and 39 BBY.
