"Gairyu Isle -Daytime- (骸流島–未の刻– Gairyū-jima -Hitsuji no Koku-?)"
Samurai Shodown (2019) announcer (VA: Hiroshi Naka)

Gairyu Isle (骸流島?) is a stage that appears in Soulcalibur VI. This stage is available alongside Season Pass 2, DLC9: Haohmaru. It is a redesign of the "Gairyu Isle - Daytime" stage from Samurai Shodown (2019).

Once the fight reaches the third round, the daylight will change from daytime to sunset. After reaching the fifth round, it switches to nighttime.

Profile[]

A lonely island with a view of the sacred peak, Mt. Fuji. Turbulent waves crash against its shores all year round, and not even the local fishermen dare approach the jagged reef encircling it, so it has remained uninhabited. An old shrine still stands here, but its inner sanctuary has long been abandoned. However, the island's divine aura and quiet seclusion have made it an appealing place for many warriors to settle their duels. A magnificent line of torii built upon the rocks extends into the waters, standing watch as the bones of countless fallen are washed away by the white waves crashing against the craggy shores. And now, on this day, men who have sworn themselves to the blade arrive once again upon this perilous isle...

Trivia[]

  • Instead of the usual announcer, this stage uses a Kuroko as a judge and the Samurai Shodown (2019) announcer (voiced by Hiroshi Naka) replaces the usual announcer.
  • The nighttime version of the stage is usually associated with Ukyo Tachibana in most Samurai Shodown installments.
  • While the stage is based off Haohmaru's stage from Samurai Shodown (2019), it seems to take various elements from its other versions that have appeared throughout the Samurai Shodown games:
    • The lone torii gate with various jagged rocks surrounding it is from Gairyu Isle - Daytime from Samurai Shodown (2019).
    • The seagulls flying around and stone lanterns are also only seen in the version of the stage from Samurai Shodown (2019).
    • The multiple torii gates with lanterns on them, leading up to a lone temple is similar to the ones seen in the nighttime version of the stage in Samurai Shodown (2019).
    • The eagle flying around is similar to the one seen in the same stage in Samurai Shodown II.
    • The battle is fought on a rocky outcrop with waves crashing into it is similar to how the same stage looks in Samurai Shodown, Samurai Shodown II, Samurai Shodown V, and Samurai Shodown Sen.
    • The stage having a day variation, a sunset variation, and a night variation is a reference to how, in each of its appearances in the various Samurai Shodown games, the stage has two versions in each game: a day or sunset version, usually designated as Haohmaru's stage; and a night version, usually designated as Ukyo Tachibana's stage.
  • The stage itself is a homage to Ganryū-jima, the island where Miyamoto Musashi (who Haohmaru was inspired by) and Sasaki Kojirō (who Ukyo Tachibana was inspired by) had their famous duel. The torii gates and shrine are a homage to Itsukushima Shrine.
