Hildegard von Krone (ヒルデガルド・フォン・クローネ Hirudegarudo fon Kurōne), or Hilde (ヒルダ Hiruda) for short, is a character in the Soul series of fighting games. She is the first downloadable character of the second season pass in Soulcalibur VI and was made available on November 26th, 2019. This marks her debut in the new, rebooted Soulcalibur timeline.

She is nicknamed Defender of the Kingdom (王国の擁護者, Ōkoku no yōgo-sha^?).

Biography[]

Soulcalibur VI[]

Hilde was born princess of Wolfkrone, a small kingdom along the banks of the Rhine. Though she lost her mother and brother to sickness in her youth, she grew into a strong and willful young lady under the mentorship of her beloved father.

As a child, Hilde was unusually sprightly. Born into the royal family, she was expected to excel in both strength and wisdom. But even as her familial duties demanded she stay inside the castle to study, she would often slip out from under her vassals’ watchful gaze to play in the fields with commoner children, only returning home when exhausted from her sport.

Maintaining the independence of a small nation amid the turbulent tides of European history was no small feat. The throne demanded much of its royal family–skillful diplomacy, the trust of the people, and the like–but held in the highest esteem was military strength: the power to shield the kingdom from outside threats. Thus, since childhood, Hilde trained in the royal fighting style. She soon surpassed her peers, and her exceptional physical strength and talent left the royal guard and even her lord father, a seasoned fighter, open-mouthed in awe.

Had the trials awaiting her been simple battles, Hilde would have no doubt won glorious victories for her homeland. However, for a true hero of the royal family, there only awaits greater hardships–and at times, a fate far too cruel.

The moment Hilde’s blissful childhood days ended, her true determination would be put to the test. Touched by the Evil Seed, King George descended into madness. This sudden tragedy that had befallen Wolfkrone sent Hilde’s heart into turmoil. But despite her personal grief, Hilde demonstrated great composure as the young heir of the royal family. When the Evil Seed and the Azure Knight appeared to threaten her home, she led Wolfkrone to war against those loyal to the cursed sword. During the conflict, Hilde rallied her kingdom behind her with the help of the Silver Wolves–the kingdom’s prized elite force under Wilhelm’s command–and admirably fulfilled her duties as princess. Still, there were times when, tormented with the cruelty of war, heart aching with her people’s suffering, she would long for her father’s loving support.

Wolfkrone had an ally in the Aval Organization, a secret society with which it had long maintained ties. Aval’s agents told Hilde that the outlook for those who were consumed by evil, such as her father, was bleak. Though hope for his recovery was now faint, Hilde was uncomfortable with the idea of wielding the kingdom’s regalia in his place.

However, after her battle against the Hunters of the Evil Sword, Hilde finally resolved to take up the legendary sword and spear. Casting away her doubts, she stood tall against fate, her heroic form kindling a new flame of hope within her people’s breasts.

Physical Appearance[]

Hilde maintains her original appearance of a young beautiful red-haired woman with red eyes and a beauty mark near the lower right side of her lips.

Personality[]

Like in her previous installments, Crown Princess-Regent Hilde is a brave and emotionally strong princess. She is also quite honorable as can be seen in her quotes as well as expressing her willingness and passion to help the citizens of Wolfkrone against threats, like the malfested. She has wisdom beyond her years, taking the oath as regent to ascend the throne in lieu of her father in her preadolescent years, later taking duties as commander-in-chief of the Wolfkrone army at only 18.

Costumes[]

Hilde wears a suit of armor consisting of a golden cuirass under a red royal coat with a white fur pelt adorned with golden gauntlets, and wears a matching golden crown. Underneath her armor is what appears to be a black dress skirt over black chain mail adorned with golden greaves.

Her Color 2 costume recolors her armor silver, her coat and spear blue, and her pelt light brown.

Her Color 3 costume recolors her armor and crown dark red with cyan accents while giving her white hair and blue eyes at the cost of her coat. Her spear has a matching cyan color.

Her Color 4 costume recolors her armor and crown red while retaining her coat, which has been recolored black with a black pelt. Her black hair is the messy variant and she has light brown eyes. Her armor is also damaged to reveal a black chain mail undersuit. Her spear is black and her sword is slightly darker in color.

Prior to replacing her father after he became malfested, she wore her alternate outfit from Soulcalibur IV, altered with a purplish pink crown and a necklace with purple gems.

She would later don her debut default outfit from her debut game at the end of her chapter.

Weapon & Fighting Style[]

The treasured sword and spear of legend, once wielded by the founder and first king of Wolfkrone. Though the original weapons have long been lost, this pair made in their image has been passed down through the royal family for generations as a symbol of the kingdom.

Whenever Wolfkrone has fallen in peril, these weapons have glittered in the hands of a champion standing on the front lines, face-to-face with danger. The sight of them has always given courage to the people, awakening the valorous blood in their veins even as darkness threatened to engulf them.

In times long past, the founder king wielded Soul Calibur to repel Soul Edge’s malice. When Wolfkrone requires a miracle once more, the chosen warrior will take the treasured sword and spear in hand and lead their people to victory.

A set of sword and spear techniques passed down through generations of the Krone family. Based on the founder king’s legendary fighting style, it is an eminently practical combat system that has been refined over time by both the royal family and the elite soldiers of Wolfkrone. Those who excel in its application are regarded as national heroes who shoulder the fate of the kingdom.

This unique style involves watching for an opening while storing up one’s own power, then waiting for the perfect moment to release it. One mighty thrust of the spear, one powerful swing of the sword carefully aimed at the most opportune moment poses a terrifying threat to opponents.

It is said that those who manage to grasp the essence of this style gain the power to channel their stalwart fighting spirit into a powerful finishing move. Though not everyone can reach this level, those who do have protected this country from countless adversaries, the glint of their sword like a savage wolf’s claw, their spear’s strike like its furious bite.

Critical Edge[]

Silver Wolf: She starts attacking her opponent with her sword, then impales her spear to the opponent's chest. She grinds her sword and starts attacking her opponent, followed up with a Calamitous-powered spear to thrust her opponent.

If done against Grøh, she will do it while crying out the name of the attack.
