Proving Grounds (剣聖の石窟?) is a stage from the Soul series, notably used by Kilik and Edge Master.

Soulcalibur[]

Proving Grounds[]

This stage serves as Kilik's stage.

Profile: This training area is near a Hindu temple located in a stone cavern of a mountain, deep in the heart of India. Pure water cascades downward from the rocky mountain's waterfalls. The beautiful, clear water that flows through this place evokes an otherworldly, if not holy atmosphere. The mysterious old man who appeared before Kilik lives here in a small shack like a hermit.

Kilik has come here once again to focus his training regimen in the hopes of taming the demons that dwell within him.

Proving Grounds (TWILIGHT)[]

In Soulcalibur, there is a variation of this stage, which takes place during sunset. This is notably used by the Edge Master.

Profile: The harsh daylight gives way to the setting sun that colors the entire area in the soft, gentle rose-colored hues of twilight. As if forgotten by time, the ruins nearby lie in shadows, weathered and worn away by the unforgiving rain and river. Now, the remaining light of the setting sun reflects off the river's surface. Although this is a place forgotten and abandoned by man, its natural beauty holds an undeniable charm for those who gaze upon it.

This place was a natural choice for the man who devoted his remaining days to achieving perfection in all forms of martial arts.

Soulcalibur III[]

Deep in the Himalayan Mountains, upstream of a cold mountain river, lives a legendary sword master. It was quite some time ago that this old man chose to spend the remainder of this life in this old cave temple. He continues to live eternally.

And now, in order to control the power of the evil sword that he had absorbed, a young apprentice devotes himself to training in this place. Once the apprentice's fierce training is complete, he will set out once again to challenge the cursed sword. What thoughts will go through the mind of the old man as he sends Kilik on his way?

The flowing water that has watched the old man for so long offers up no words, merely continuing to flow as it always has.
