Skull Ants are named after the skull-shaped pattern on their abdomen.
Design[]
Appearance[]
Skull Ants are massive ants with six legs, two wings, two antennas, jagged mandibles, red eyes, and a white skull-shaped pattern on their abdomen that sports poisonous thorns.
Roar[]
Skull Ants produce a series of hisses and chitters.
Personality[]
Skull Ants live in colonies and march through the forest quietly before they douse their enemies in hyper-corrosive acid. Skull Ant Queens store their offspring inside their body, and once the offspring become more independent, they will devour the remains of their dead mother before venturing separately.[1]
Origins[]
The Skull Ant is unlike any other eusocial insect. They seem solitary, but this couldn't be further from the truth. Hidden within a Queen's skull-shaped gaster grows a young colony in its larval stage. The Skull Ants evolved with unique strategy to safeguard their offspring from predators, eliminating the need for traditional nests and incorporating them within their bodies.
The poisonous thorns that protrude from the ants' abdomen make it difficult for predators to swallow them. They are also capable of spraying acid corrosive enough to melt through metal.
Digested food is secreted into the gaster so the young larva may feed. As they mature, the demand for food increases, and they will begin foraging outside of the colony. Soon, the Queen's death serves as a signal for their independence. They devour her remains and venture out separately, searching for new territories in the jungle.
