When Annie was just a child, she and her dad shipwrecked on a mysterious island close to Skull Island. Both started living there together with no hopes of returning home until one day, a giant dog-like monster appeared, starting to hunt the two. Due to the situation, Annie's father hid his daughter and went to fight the beast on his own, which ended in the death of both of them, leaving Annie and the beast's pup with no parents.
Annie buried her father and did her best to survive on her own. Meeting the pup, she was initially wary of him but the two soon warmed up to each other, eventually forming a strong bond. For the next ten years, Annie lived alone on the island with the pup who she named Dog. The two grew up together and had several adventures on the island which she named Annie's Island.
Years later, Annie's mother came to the island after finding out her daughter was potentially alive. Together with a team of mercenaries she hired, they arrived on the beach with the intent to find Annie but were attacked by both her and Dog who were unaware of who any of them were or why they came. The mercenaries retaliated in self-defense when Dog came at them and when she saw this, Annie appeared and attempted to kill Irene, not knowing she was her mother. At least six of the mercenaries were killed, but they still managed to subdue Annie and bring her onboard their ship.
Annie woke up on the ship in a bed and handcuffed, though she soon escaped and fled the ship on a lifeboat. However, whilst fleeing, Annie was attacked by an unidentified sea monster which destroyed her boat. Left stranded in the water, Annie almost drowned until she was rescued by the crew of another ship. One of the crew members named Charlie jumped into the water after spotting Annie who was left disoriented and brought her onboard. On the ship, Annie eventually came to and was startled by the presence of the crew.

Annie's name is a reference to Ann Darrow, the female protagonist in the original story of King Kong.[1]
Annie shares many attributes with San from Princess Mononoke such as her lack of people skills, her bond with a giant canine, and her wild girl nature. Both girls also get caught in a feud with an older woman.
