The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier is a nuclear powered aircraft carrier built by the New Newport News Shipbuilding Company. It is featured in the MonsterVerse films Godzilla, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, andGodzilla vs. Kong.

History[]

Godzilla[]

The USS Saratoga, a Nimitz class aircraft carrier, along with its group of escort ships was tasked with tracking the male MUTO after it had hatched from its cocoon and escaped its containment facility in Janjira, Japan. After receiving reports of a missing Russian Akula class submarine, the Saratoga deployed F/A-18F Super Hornets and F-35 Lighting IIs towards Honolulu in a search for the missing submarine. After the MUTO was found inland feeding on the nuclear payload of the submarine, one of the Saratoga's F-35s was directed to engage the Titan, but was disabled by the MUTO's EMP pulse. As the winged Titan made its way towards Honolulu International Airport, Godzilla appeared, swimming towards the island at top speed. When it appeared that the Titan was going to ram through the carrier, it simply dived underneath it, leaving the ship unscathed.

Later the Saratoga along with two of its escorts followed Godzilla as it tracked the MUTO's mating calls, but soon lost contact with as it dove to deeper depths.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters[]

At least one carrier was present with a large contingent of US Navy ships at Monarch's Castle Bravo base during Ghidorah's brief reign as the Alpha titan. F/A-18Fs would launch from this ship.

Godzilla vs. Kong[]

At least two of these ships are part of the fleet tasked with escorting Kong for the journey from Skull Island to Antarctica. One of the carriers was heavily damaged as both Kong and Godzilla fought on the flight deck, and was later destroyed by Godzilla's atomic breath. The remaining carrier along with the remnants of the escort force and Kong survived only by playing dead, causing Godzilla to leave.
