The Frontier Awaits

This page contains information specifically pertaining to the first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, whose episode premieres were consecutively streamed on Paramount+ wherever it was available at that point in time.

The series was from the start intended as a Paramount+ exclusive, and several territories anywhere else in the world, most conspicuously the entirety of Europe, had to wait until a version of the streamer was rolled-out in their respective countries, before subscribers could officially (and legally) watch the series. In Europe's case this meant a delay of the series' first season debut of anywhere from a couple of weeks for the British Isles, mainland Scandinavia and Italy, to up to a half year and longer for the rest of mainland Europe (see main article).

Background information[]

  • StarTrek.com announced on 12 March 2021 that actual production of Strange New Worlds had begun. As with the Discovery show that had spawned it, the new show would be entirely produced in Toronto, Canada. [1] Additionally, the hiring of cast members Olusanmokun, Chong, Rose Gooding, Bush, and Navia was revealed. Also revealed was the circumstance that the script, written by Executive Producer and Co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman, was completed for the series' pilot episode, based off a story written by Goldsman (who was also the designated director for the episode), Alex Kurtzman, and Jenny Lumet. [2]
  • On 24 July 2021, Christopher Pike performer Anson Mount announced that principal photography, aka "production", for the first season had wrapped right on schedule, despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. [3]
  • Strange New World's first season became the very first television production to be wholly produced to 4K HD 2160p resolution standards by using the new 4K+ ultra high resolution ARRI Alexa cameras, [4] and it was this circumstance that led to the first 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Star Trek television production release.

On 29 September 2022, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was selected as one of the ten finalists in the first Audio Description People's Choice Award competition, launched by the American Council of the Blind. [5] [6]
