The Whisperbird was a Chiss light cruiser in service to the Chiss Ascendancy's Expansionary Defense Fleet. In 19 BBY, it served as part of Picket Force Six under Admiral Ar'alani and assisted in defeating forces of the Nikardun Destiny nation and their leader, General Yiv, at a battle over the Unknown Regions planet of Primea. About a year later in 18 BBY, after Admiral Ar'alani had invited them to join, the light cruiser also fought as a part of Senior Captain Thrawn's fleet over the planet nicknamed Sunrise against the forces of the warlike Grysk species at Thrawn's last stand.

The Whisperbird was a Chiss light cruiser that was equipped with engines and a hyperdrive, and its hull was made from nyix-alloy. The light cruiser was also equipped with electrostatic barriers for defense as well as spectrum lasers, plasma spheres, and breachers as weapons.^[2]

The Chiss light cruiser Whisperbird served as a part of Admiral Ar'alani's Picket Force Six in the Chiss Ascendancy Expansionary Defense Fleet. The warship shared its name with the whisperbird, a creature known to the Chiss species.^[2] In 19 BBY,^[3] General Yiv of the Nikardun Destiny nation had set out on conquering the neighboring nations of the Chiss Ascendancy in hopes of eventually conquering the Ascendancy itself. As a part of Picket Force Six, the Whisperbird fought at the battle over Primea, where Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo "Thrawn" had lured Yiv and his forces into a trap over the Vak Combine nation's capital planet of Primea in the Unknown Regions.^[2]

The Whisperbird ran an analysis of the Nikardun warships that matched with those of the Nightdragon man-of-war class Vigilant and the Chiss heavy cruisers Springhawk and Grayshrike. During the battle, Admiral Ar'alani ordered the light cruiser to assist the Grayshrike and the Chiss light cruiser Stingfly in attacking one of the Nikardun Battle Dreadnoughts that had arrived, with the Chiss forces eventually emerging victorious against the Nikardun Destiny.^[2]

In 18 BBY,^[4] following Ar'alani's invitation, the warship fought as part of the Chiss fleet, along with the patrol cruisers Bokrea and Parala, against forces of the warlike Grysk species at Senior Captain Thrawn's last stand over the planet nicknamed Sunrise. The battle was the final altercation between the Chiss and the Grysk coordinator "Jixtus," who sought to destroy the Chiss Ascendancy. The Chiss emerged victorious after receiving aid from the Kilji Illumine, Paccian Governance, Vak Combine, and the Garwian Unity, all nations that resided in the Unknown Regions.^[1]
