"The Vermillion is shaped like a knife. Right now, we're at the tip."
Chelli Aphra[7]

The Vermillion was a ship used by the Crimson Dawn criminal syndicate that served as its Fortress-Flagship.[1] After the organization stole the carbonite-frozen Han Solo, he was brought to Crimson Dawn leader Lady Qi'ra on board the Vermillion. The ship landed on Jekara in the Mid Rim, where Qi'ra planned to offer Solo to crime lord Jabba the Hutt as part of Crimson Dawn's planned re-emergence in the galaxy.[6] Not long later, the Auction for Han Solo was held aboard the Vermillion and was won by Jabba at the cost of one million credits.[8]

After capturing the young human female Cadeliah, the heir to both the Unbroken Clan and Mourner's Wail Syndicate,[9]

Sometime later, the crew of the bounty hunter T'onga planned to break into the ship to rescue Cadeliah and hired the bounty hunter Dengar to get them in and out of the ship.[10] Unbeknownst to the crew, however, Dengar was actually leading them into a trap.[4] When Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine and Darth Vader realized Crimson Dawn was hunting the Sith themselves, they ordered the Empire's military might to find the Vermillion. Learning of that, Qi'ra had Cadeliah leave with Crimson Dawn leader Trinia to keep her safe and greeted her many allies aboard the Vermillion. She revealed she had ordered her many agents throughout the galaxy to cause chaos as the start of what she termed to be her "hidden empire."[11]

Shifting the vessel into attack mode, the Vermillon battled an Imperial fleet and was sacrificed by Qi'ra.[5]
