"I have people all across the galaxy. In the Empire, in every syndicate and significant corporation, on every major world, in the Rebel Alliance. They have been bought, persuaded, loved, threatened, blackmailed, lied to, told the truth. They are mine, and they are everywhere. I just gave them the same order. The order is one word. Chaos. Chaos for the Empire, anywhere they can create it."
Qi'ra activating her Sleeper Agents throughout the various organizations of the galaxy[1]

A Sleeper Agent posing as an Imperial trooper

A Sleeper Agent was a type of spy that operated undercover for long periods of time to complete an objective. They could be an sentient organic being or droid. A mission could require an agent to remain embedded for months or even years. This required extreme dedication and the ability to mislead those around them convincingly and maintain a cover of lies to hide their true identity. Sleep Agents often worked mundane jobs that had nothing to do with the person or object of their mission. Rarely, agents would work in government or military agencies as those positions involved much more scrutiny and background checks. Some Sleeper Agents operated without knowledge of their true objective or actions due to brainwashing or reprogramming.

History[]

During the early days of the Rebel Alliance, Sabine Wren infiltrated the Skystrike Academy as a pilot trainie. Her true objective was to extract Wedge Antilles, Derek Klivian and Rake Gahree, who wished to defect to the Rebellion.[2]

The C1-series astromech droid known as "Chopper" was briefly, and unwilling, turned into a sleeper agent for the Galactic Empire by the crew of an Imperial IGV-55 surveillance vessel on the orders of Controller LT-319.[3]

During the Galactic Civil War, the resurgent criminal syndicate Crimson Dawn had sleeper agents throughout many factions of the galaxy, including the Alliance to Restore the Republic, Galactic Empire, Tagge Corporation, Sixth Kin,[4] and Black Sun.[5]
