"The Witch & the Wookiee" is a short story that was published in Myths & Fables. The story was authored by George Mann, illustrated by Grant Griffin, and published on August 6, 2019.

Plot summary[]

According to legend, A trio of pirates found themselves on the run after betraying their former pirate crew for stolen imperial treasure. The three pirates were made up of a Weequay named Marath, a Quarren named Kalab and a Human named Houliet. While fleeing from their former crew and the robbed Imperial governor the group found their way to the Hoth system. There they decided to hide the treasure on Jhas Krill, an uninhabited moon of the gas giant Jhas.

After landing on Jhas Krill the three locked the ship and set out into the jungle looking for a good hiding place. As night fell the group began to worry about finding their way back to the ship in the dark so instead began to search for shelter. Eventually they spotted a soft light that led them to a a modest house in a clearing. A tall, thin women dressed in red and black robes named Shelish invited the group in. Inside they found a variety of glittering treasure spread around the one room home.

When asked why they had come, the group lied saying that they were fleeing pirates and had come to the moon to hide. After being promised food and shelter the group began to plot against Shelish in a secret code. Shelish however knew the pirates intentions and prepared their broth with care. When Marath approached Shelish with a knife the shadows in the hut began to swirl and dance before forming into a shaggy Wookiee. The Wookiee, which Shelish called Owacchi made quick work of the threat. But Shelish stopped Owacchi from killing them instead allowing the group to leave and warning them to never return.

When the group made it back to their ship they were happy to see that their treasure was undisturbed. However when Houliet touched one of the golden goblets it slowly crumbled to dust. Every coin, jewel or relic the group touched like wise turned to dust. The witch had cursed them, giving them everything they deserved.
