"Uh, sir, there are clones in the main hangar."
"Impossible. The probability of that is 10,003 to 1."
―A battle droid and TM-171[2]

TM-171 was a T-series military strategic analysis and tactics droid who served in the naval forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. In 20 BBY, the droid officer was dispatched to the planet Umbara during a campaign against the Galactic Republic, where he commanded strategic resupply operations for the Umbaran Militia on the surface from a Dual Hemisphere-Omni Support Vessel in orbit.

During one of TM-171's munitions delivery operations, a group of three Republic clone troopers infiltrated his supply ship to prevent the shipment's arrival. Despite the droid's presence, the clones destroyed the ship's reactor, resulting in the destruction of the transport and its commander along with it.

A T-series military strategic analysis and tactics droid manufactured by Baktoid Combat Automata,[3] TM-171 served as an officer in the naval forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars against the Galactic Republic.[2] In 20 BBY,[1] the tactical droid was dispatched to the planet Umbara, which had been invaded by the Republic following its defection to the Confederacy. Amid the engagements on Umbara, TM-171 was charged with commanding strategic munitions resupply operations[5] from an orbiting Dual Hemisphere-Omni Support Vessel for the forces of Umbaran militants on the surface.[2]

Following the Republic's capture of an Umbaran airbase and ceasing of arms shipments to the Umbaran capital city as the multi-day campaign on the planet progressed, TM-171 began to focus from aboard[2] his[5] supply ship resupplying operations on the capital as it became threatened by Republic forces. Preventing the Republic's 212th Attack Battalion from advancing on the city, the tactical droid's supply ship was engaged by the Republic fleet in the atmosphere. However, the supply ship was heavily protected by a defensive ring formed by the remaining warships of the Confederacy's planetary blockade, which kept the Republic from reaching TM-171 and destroying the supply ship.[2]

In response, with engagements raging in the atmosphere, a group of three Republic clone troopers proceeded to fly into the battle in an attempt to board and destroy TM-171's supply ship using stolen Zenuas 33 Umbaran starfighters. Shortly after the clones entered the main hangar of the vessel, one of the droid officer's B1-series battle droids alerted him to the infiltration—an event that he believed only had a probability of happening of 10,003 to 1. As the troopers flew deeper into the hangar, TM-171, receiving confirmation that three commandeered starfighters were in the hangar, ordered his bridge crew to bolster their defenses and activate defensive ray shields around the reactor in order to protect it from attack. Despite the droid's efforts, the troopers were able to destroy the reactor, resulting in the loss of the supply ship with TM-171 along with it, which thereby furthered the efforts of the Republic in the campaign on Umbara.[2]

Characteristics[]

A T-series tactical droid,[2] TM-171 stood at 1.93 meters in height.[4] He possessed white photoreceptors and green- and tan-colored plating. TM-171 also displayed signs of arrogance, as he held a disbelief in situations that he viewed as improbable.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

TM-171, voiced by Tom Kane, was introduced in "Plan of Dissent,"[2] the ninth episode of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series' fourth season, which aired on November 11, 2011.[6] TM-171 was later identified in the 2021 reference book Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy.[5]
