Space and Humanity was a book about starship design during the High Republic Era. At least nine editions of Space and Humanity were published by Mr. Carl, the chief engineer of Star Bay Shipyards. In 200 BBY, the 9th edition was the newest, but some starships were still modeled after the 7th edition.

The book Space and Humanity was written and published by Star Bay Shipyards' chief engineer Mr. Carl, also known as Master Carl. It was a book about the optimization of interior starship design. Mr. Carl updated his formula for optimizing interior space with new additions and improvements by publishing new editions of the book.[1]

Padawan Sean recognized that the Silver Dawn was designed after the principles of Space and Humanity.
At some point before[1] 200 BBY,[2] the engineer Mr. Carl wrote and published nine editions of the book Space and Humanity. During the High Republic Era, the Jedi Padawan Sean became familiar with Space and Humanity, and captain Li Yu of the Silver Knights mercenary group designed his battleship, the Silver Dawn, after the book's principles.[1] In 200 BBY,[2] the Jedi Master Mostima and her Padawan, Sean, were sent on a mission to the Aakaash system in the Oplovis sector. After Sean and his Master were separated in an attack, the Padawan was rescued by Li Yu. Li then told Sean that he wanted to get paid for rescuing him and offered to pay off his debts by working for the Silver Knights. Sean agreed and joined Li's group.[1]
Later, Li and Sean conversed about the Silver Dawn, and the former noted that the latter had clearly designed it based on the principles of the 7th edition of Space and Humanity. The Jedi then added that it could be improved by retrofitting it to adhere to the 9th edition since the latest revision of the book included significant improvements in interior space utilization. Upon that, Li Yu got angry, telling Sean he did not know about Master Carl's newest revision. Li further explained that he did not have enough money to buy every new edition let alone modify his ship, but he might redesign the Silver Dawn when Sean paid back his debts.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Space and Humanity was mentioned in the 2020 Chinese web-novel, The Vow of Silver Dawn,[1] written by "His Majesty the King." In the novel, the book's name was written with the Simplified Chinese characters, "太空与人性."[3]
