"Smeemarm with Tunnel Team Twelve—all good in the underbelly."
―Smeemarm[1]

Smeemarm was an Arcona female[2] operative in the security team led by Alys Ongwa on planet Corellia. When the crew was tasked with protecting Lina Soh, Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic, during a visit to Corellia's Coronet City, Smeemarm led Tunnel Team Twelve in patrolling the city's underbelly. After the Nihil released scav droids during the visit, Smeemarm encountered one in the tunnels and destroyed it.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

"…this happened to me with Smeemarm and the protected species ranger Twilek in MH lolol I was like obviously they're shmanging any fool could see and yet…it is not actually that clear in the text at all DJ"
―Daniel José Older[3]

Smeemarm debuted in The High Republic Adventures Annual 2021.

Smeemarm first appeared in "Crash and the Crew Do What They Do," a comic story published in The High Republic Adventures Annual 2021 as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures series, which was within the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[2] Phase I.[4] The story was written by Daniel José Older, illustrated by Jesse Lonergan, and released by IDW Publishing[1] on December 15, 2021.[5] Following the comic's release, Lonergan released unlettered page spreads from the work, two of which featured the character.[6][7] She later appeared in Midnight Horizon, a 2022 novel written by Older for the Star Wars: The High Republic's[2] Phase I.[4]

In Midnight Horizon, Smeemarm and Chief Inspector Deemus Abrus share a moment of pointed eye contact with each other after the women collaborated to imprison the musician Crufeela.[2] On Twitter, Older confirmed that he had written the scene to convey that Smeemarm and Abrus were "shmanging" together. Though he initially felt it was clearly portrayed, he later acknowledged some readers found the text unclear when responding to fellow Star Wars author Alyssa Wong about two of their characters—Chelli Lona Aphra and Domina Tagge—who had a similar situation happen.[3]
