Jesse Lonergan is a comic artist[4] who was born in California[1] within the United States.[2] He[3] created a variant cover for the ninth issue of the 2021 comic series Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures. The issue was written by Daniel José Older, penciled by Toni Bruno, and released by IDW Publishing[4] as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase I.[7] His variant cover was sold as an online-exclusive for New York Comic Con on October 7, 2021,[8] released the day after the issue's primary cover.[9] The artist thanked[10] IDW Publishing's Editorial Director[11] Mark Irwin for enabling him to make the cover.[10]
Lonergan penciled[12] and colored[13] "Crash and the Crew Do What They Do," a comic short story released in the one-shot annual edition issue The High Republic Adventures Annual 2021 for Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures series. The story was written by Older and released by IDW Publishing[12] on December 15, 2021.[14] He was first revealed to be working on the issue on September 15 of that year in a StarWars.com post.[15]
On Twitter, prior to the issue's release, he thanked the author[6] and the series' editor[13] Heather Antos for their work on the project and shared some blank page layouts used in the comic.[6] Lonergan also shared two other unlettered artwork spreads from "Crash and the Crew Do What They Do,"[16][17] one of which he felt was one of his favorites.[17] In a publisher's summary for Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, Volume Two, a 2022 trade paperback collecting The High Republic Adventures Annual 2021, he was mistakenly credited as "Jess Lonergan."[18]
