- "Shiim is any kind of wound that is made with the edge of a lightsaber blade."
- ―Cin Drallig
In lightsaber combat, shiim was a more minute wound to an opponent by the edge of a lightsaber's blade. It was considered inferior and a sign of desperation or struggle against a potent enemy. However, in use by a lightsaber master, this was regarded as either a taunt by a superior enemy or an immobilizing technique to stop a foe.
Notable uses[]
While dueling with Darth Bane on Tython, Jedi Knight Johun Othone scored a successful shiim strike against the Dark Lord by slashing through a gap in his orbalisk armor at his exposed wrist, cutting him deeply, though it only enraged Bane into attacking more fiercely.[2]
Count Dooku performed two successful shiim strikes against Obi-Wan Kenobi while dueling on Geonosis, gracefully slashing both his left arm and leg.[3]
Dooku also used shiim against Tholme, gouging out the Jedi Master's eye, and again against Yoda during their rematch on Vjun, though it failed to bring him down.[4][5]
Asajj Ventress applied shiim against Kit Fisto in the arm on Ord Cestus and would have finished him off, had he not dodged the killing blow in time.[6] Anakin Skywalker survived a shiim wound inflicted by Ventress on Coruscant, though it left him with a distinct facial scar over his right eye.[7] Ventress later used this technique on a Clone trooper commander Wolffe. She impaled his right eye, and if Jedi Masters Plo Koon and Kit Fisto had not been present, he surely would have died from severe blood loss.
Galen Marek was heavily scarred from the numerous shiim applications he inadvertently received from Darth Vader's missed attacks during their sparring matches.[8] Vader later applied shiim on Tao under Darth Sidious' orders.
Darth Vader himself suffered a shiim wound from each of his children: the first on his helmet from Leia Organa Solo, who briefly fought him on Mimban;[9] the next on his right shoulder during his fight with Luke Skywalker at Bespin.[10]
Jacen Solo applied shiim against Nelani Dinn when he cut her thigh, rendering her unable to stand.[11]
Sith Lord Darth Kruhl used shiim against Rikkar-Du, brutally slashing him across the chest before killing him.[12]
