"If you want to know about hyperspace, I have people you should talk to. They don't live out here anymore–they moved to the Mid Rim when the family struck it rich–but I can make the introduction."
"Who?"
"The San Tekka clan."
"I know that name…the prospectors?"
"They prefer the term explorers. They're an odd bunch, but no one knows more about hyperspace than they do."
Senator Izzet Noor and Jedi Elzar Mann[1]

The San Tekka clan, also known as the San Tekka empire or the San Tekka family, was a clan that was active during the High Republic Era.[1] The family rose from humble roots as a family of hardscrabble hyperspace prospectors.[5] By the time of the Supreme Chancellorship of Lina Soh it had become a dynasty at the forefront of technology that allowed for the expansion of the Galactic Republic. However, the clan kept secret the cost of their rise to prominence;[5] the Force-sensitive[7] Mari San Tekka had been able to detect Paths through hyperspace. She was eventually stolen away from the San Tekkas by the Ro family. During Lina Soh's tenure as Chancellor, the clan was led by scions Marlowe and Vellis.[1] Lor San Tekka was a member of the family during the New Republic Era.[8]

Behind the scenes[]

"Once just a family of hard-scrabble hyperspace prospectors seeking valuable routes in the outer reaches of the galaxy, the San Tekka clan has become a dynasty, at the forefront of technologies and techniques that let Chancellor Lina Soh's great galactic Republic continue to expand safely to new areas. Overseen by scions Marlon and Vellis San Tekka, the clan operates in close conjunction with the Republic, and becomes crucial to its response to the Great Disaster. But the San Tekkas have a secret…their rise did not come without cost."
―Charles Soule[5]

The San Tekka clan was first mentioned in the StarWars.com announcement regarding the postponement of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project.[9] Charles Soule, author of the 2021 novel The High Republic: Light of the Jedi, confirmed in an interview with Polygon that the clan members are the ancestors of Lor San Tekka, an explorer first seen in the 2015 film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens.[10]
