"Ah, Agent P, our sources tell us that the R2 unit is safely in the possession of Obi-Wan Kenobi. You always come through for us. Great work! Now, take a well deserved rest."
―Major Hologram to Perry[1]

Perry, also known as Perry the Rebel-pus, Perry the Platypus, or simply Agent P, was a Platypus who was an agent for the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Imperial Era. He disguised himself as a pet of the Flynn-Fletcher family until Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher found out about his real identity, and Perry left the family.

Sometime by 0 BBY, Perry infiltrated the Galactic Empire's Death Star superweapon to rescue Rebel agents that had been captured and frozen in carbonite. During this mission, Perry encountered Imperial scientist Heinz Darthenshmirtz three times and destroyed his Normtrooper-inator, a large armed repulsorcraft. In 0 BBY, Perry stole the plans for the Death Star and delivered them to Princess Leia Organa of the Rebel Alliance. However, the Empire captured her ship the Tantive IV, leading her to put the plans in a droid called R2-D2 and assign Perry to escort him to recluse Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi on the planet Tatooine. However, Perry was separated from the droids and forced to stow away in an escape pod jettisoned by stormtroopers to follow them to Tatooine. There, Perry helped ensure that the droid reached Kenobi.

With his mission complete, Perry was assigned a new mission by the Rebel Alliance's Major Hologram to stop Darthenshmirtz from creating and using his Sith-inator machine. Perry went to the Death Star to stop him, where he ran into his former owners Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher. However, Darthenshmirtz captured Perry and froze him in carbonite before explaining that the Sith-inator would turn whoever it hit into a powerful Sith, evil wielders of the dark side of the Force. After Perry was freed, Perry attacked Darthenshmirtz, and the two engaged in hand-to-hand combat throughout the Death Star. Eventually, the scientist fell into his own carbon-freezing chamber and was frozen in carbonite. After Flynn destroyed the Sith-inator, Perry left with Darthenshmirtz in his custody, however Darthenshmirtz later escaped his carbonite block and departed in an escape pod. Regardless, Perry's mission was still considered a success, and he went to Yavin 4 to celebrate alongside the rest of the Alliance.

Biography[]

Living a double life[]

PhineasFerbEatingAtHome-PhineasAndFerbStarWars

Perry once lived with the Flynn-Fletcher family disguised as a pet.

"He used to be our pet until we found out he was secretly an agent for the Rebellion. We felt a little betrayed and hurt at first, but bygones be bygones!"
―Phineas Flynn, about his former pet Perry[1]

Perry was a Platypus who disguised himself as a house pet of the Flynn-Fletcher family while working as an agent for the[1] Alliance to Restore the Republic, an organization devoted to taking down the Galactic Empire.[2] At some point, his owners Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher discovered his true identity and felt betrayed. Perry then left the family and continued doing missions solely for the Rebellion.[1]

Lost agents[]

"What's that? You want to know about my secret project? You'll never guess! Ha ha ha!"
―Heinz Darthenshmirtz, to Perry[3]

Sometime by 0 BBY,[4] Major Hologram of the Rebel Alliance sent Perry to the Empire's Death Star battle station to rescue other agents of the Rebellion. They were being held on the battle station after being captured by the Galactic Empire and frozen in carbonite. The giant space station was heavily guarded by normtroopers, a droid variant of Imperial stormtroopers, though Perry successfully passed through and rescued some of the agents before being confronted by the Imperial scientist Heinz Darthenshmirtz. The scientist, who recognized Perry and referred to him as "Perry the Rebel-pus," presented a weapon he had recently developed, the Normtrooper-inator, which was equipped with an Anti-Magnet-Antennae that prevented Perry from using his wrist magnet. With the help of the agents he freed, Perry destroyed the weapon and Darthenshmirtz fled to rework his invention, though he told Perry to remain there.[3]

Darthenshmirtz

Later, while still on the Death Star, Perry received another transmission from Major Hologram, who informed him that Darthenshmirtz was working on a new device, instructing him to uncover what it was while rescuing more captured agents. After Perry saved more agents frozen in carbonite, he found Darthenshmirtz again, who welcomed him and told him that he would never guess what his new secret project was. Darthenshmirtz used his Normtrooper-inator again to try and defeat Perry, but Perry, with the help of the agents he freed, defeated the machine again. As Darthenshmirtz retreated, he revealed that he was working on a device called a Sith-inator, but insisted that Perry would never stop him.[3]

Hologram contacted Perry again and told him that he needed to defeat Darthenshmirtz before he could complete his Sith-inator and doom the galaxy. After traveling through more of the Death Star and freeing more frozen agents, Perry once again found and confronted Darthenshmirtz, who had reworked his Normtrooper-inator and renamed it to the Super Normtrooper V3.0. Darthenshmirtz was shocked to see Perry and asked him why he would not just leave him alone to conduct his evil plans, before attacking him with his Super Normtrooper. When Perry destroyed Darthenshmirtz's invention for the final time along with the help of other agents, the scientist cursed Perry and insisted that he would defeat him in the future. The defeat also resulted in Darthenshmirtz's development of the Sith-inator being held back.[3]

Death Star plans heist[]

"We received your transmissions. So you have the Death Star plans? Agent P you never cease to…"

Perry steals the Death Star plans.

In 0 BBY,[5] after learning the Death Star plans were located on the modified Star Destroyer Empire Administration Offices, the Rebel Alliance decided to send Perry, who was their best Platypus agent, to retrieve them in the hopes of finding a weakness of the battle station. Perry successfully infiltrated the Star Destroyer to steal the plans. He navigated many offices set up in the building and avoided being seen by Office Stormtroopers to reach a room guarded by a ray shield. He placed a device under a small panel next to it and the device emitted an electric charge, turning off the shield. He went into the room and opened a drawer that contained the plans, pressing a button inside of it to eject a disc labeled as the Death Star plans. However, in doing so, he triggered an alarm on the ship and caused a blast door at the entrance of the room he was in to begin closing. He dived through the door before it closed completely, but was immediately approached by stormtroopers armed with blasters. Perry then ran and briefly avoided being seen by the stormtroopers by running along the top of the office cubicles.[1]

Once the stormtroopers spotted Perry, they began shooting at him, one of the blaster bolts nearly missing him and hitting a flowerpot nearby. He jumped onto a stormtrooper's head and launched himself into a vent, barely avoiding several blaster bolts that penetrated the vent as he ran through it. He jumped out of a hole in the side of the ship into his shuttle, which was parked on the outside of the star destroyer. He dislodged his shuttle and began to speed away, the Empire Administration Offices chasing after him, though they were unable to reach him before he sent his ship into hyperspace.[1]

Soon after, Perry exited hyperspace above the planet Tatooine near the[1] Tantive IV[2] and docked with the ship. Onboard, he met with Princess[1] Leia Organa of the Core Worlds planet Alderaan, one of the leaders of the Rebel Alliance,[2] who told him that they had received his transmissions and asked if he had the plans. After he gave the plans to her, she thanked him and began to compliment him before the Tantive IV shook violently. A rebel agent entered and informed Organa that an Imperial Star Destroyer had tracked their position, the shaking being the result of the Star Destroyer firing on their ship.[1]

Escorting droids[]

"Agent P, I need you to make sure this R2 unit goes to Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine. But first, I need to record a video message. Uh, be a dear and stand over by the bulkhead. You're kind of in my shot."
―Leia Organa, to Perry[1]

Leia Organa sends Perry to escort R2-D2.

Later, Perry and Organa stayed out of sight from the Empire in a hallway of the Tantive IV. After placing the Death Star plans in the astromech droid R2-D2, Organa asked Perry to escort the droid to[1] recluse Jedi Master[2] Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine. She added that she first needed to record a message, and asked Perry to move by a bulkhead so he would not be in her shot, which he did. After Organa left, Perry and R2-D2, along with protocol droid C-3PO, headed over to the ship's escape pods with the intention of using one to reach Tatooine. Before they could board it, a stormtrooper named Buford fired a shot from his blaster while gesturing, forcing Perry to dodge it by rolling away. This caused him to be separated from R2-D2 and C-3PO, who entered the escape pod and ejected it before Perry could get back to it and board it. Stormtroopers Buford, Baljeet, and Candace started to board another one of the escape pods to go after the droids, as Candace had seen Organa speaking to the droid. Seeing them, Perry hid behind a bulkhead until the stormtroopers boarded the pod and then snuck onboard and stowed away under one of the pod's seats. The escape pod ejected and eventually landed on Tatooine. Perry waited for the three stormtroopers to exit it before he did, and then tracked R2-D2 by following the tracks the droid left in the sand.[1]

Perry tracked R2-D2 to a sandcrawler operated by Jawas and saw them taking the astromech onboard. Perry ran after the sandcrawler as it started to leave, climbing up the back of it. Eventually, the sandcrawler stopped at the[1] Lars Homestead[2] with Perry still on it. Perry jumped off the sandcrawler and watched while hiding behind its tread as the[1] moisture farmer Owen Lars[2] bought C-3PO and[1] astromech droid R5-D4,[2] telling his nephew Luke Skywalker to bring them inside their garage. Perry then spotted R2-D2 with the Jawas and started to approach the droid, but just then Red blew out his motivator and Lars asked to replace the malfunctioned astromech with R2-D2 instead, surprising Perry. As Skywalker brought R2-D2 and C-3PO along to the homestead, Perry went back behind the sandcrawler.[1]

Eventually, when Tatooine's twin suns were setting, Perry ran toward the homestead's garage. He listened from outside as C-3PO announced he was going to take an oil bath, and then stood in the doorway and threw a rock at R2-D2 to get his attention before gesturing for the droid to follow him. Perry pushed R2 out of the homestead as Skywalker stared out into the sunset, sneaking behind him. While pushing R2 along a narrow ledge, Perry and R2 were hit by a landspeeder driven by the Flynn-Fletcher stepbrothers Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher. R2 landed in the speeder, but Perry was pushed off of the ledge. He was able to catch himself and climb back up, but he was hit by the stepbrothers and their speeder again. This time, he was knocked all the way down the cliff, directly onto a cake sitting in front of a Tusken Raider youngling who was surrounded by a massive group of other Tuskens. The youngling screamed and anger, leading to the other Tuskens swarming Perry, which scared him.[1]

A new mission[]

"So you're probably on a mission right now, huh?"
[Perry gives a thumbs-up]
"Hey! So are we! Oh, uh, this is our pilot, Isabella. So, uh, good luck."
―Phineas Flynn to Perry[1]

The next morning, Perry baked a new cake, replacing the one he destroyed, and presented it to the Tusken youngling and the rest of the tribe, who all cheered with excitement. Perry's wrist holoprojector then beeped, as he was receiving a transmission from Major Hologram. Hologram told Perry that the R2 unit had made it to Kenobi and congratulated the Platypus on his work, but Perry just smiled awkwardly, knowing that he did not deliver the astromech. Regardless, he told Perry that he deserved a rest and ended the communication. Perry rested for about a second but was then quickly interrupted by another transmission from Hologram, who had Perry's next mission. Hologram told Perry that he needed to get to the Death Star immediately because Darthenshmirtz was working on a new device, which he called an "inator," needing Perry to stop the scientist before he could finish building it. Hologram wished him luck and ended the transmission. Immediately after, Perry's face fell with annoyance.[1]

Soon after, Perry arrived on the Death Star and went to the Death Star Directory to navigate, where he came across his former owners Flynn and Fletcher. Perry ran toward the two brothers, who picked him up into a hug. Fletcher put Perry back down and introduced him to the pilot Isabella. Flynn explained the brothers' past relationship with Perry to her and how the discovery of Perry's true identity had affected the two of them, though revealed that they had moved on. Perry and Flynn both shared that they were on missions, so Flynn wished Perry good luck and Perry said goodbye by shaking the brothers' hands. Once he was gone, Flynn commented that Perry looked good.[1]

Confrontation and capture[]

"So, like I said, I'm going to make myself super evil with my Sith-inator here. But first, I'm gonna shoot you just to make sure it's safe and, you know, I don't die or fry myself and have to wear one of those masks like Vader […] Plus, if it works, you can join me on the dark side. We can be Sith buddies!"
―Darthenshmirtz to Perry[1]

Heinz Darthenshmirtz informs Perry about his midi-chlorian count.

Perry eventually reached and opened the door to an abandoned recycling compartment that Darthenshmirtz utilized as a lair and was greeted by the scientist. However, the blast door did not open all the way, confusing a determined Perry, so Darthenshmirtz explained that he put in a work order but that no one would come to help for a few days. Perry then stood with a determined expression on a hatch in the floor that Darthenshmirtz had painted a giant red letter 'X' on in the hope that Perry would stand on it. Darthenshmirtz quickly opened the hatch which caused Perry to fall into a carbon-freezing chamber and be frozen in a block of carbonite. Darthenshmirtz's protocol droid Norm-3PO then picked up the carbonite block Perry was frozen in and hung it on a closed door in the lair, saying it was similar to art.[1]

Darthenshmirtz told the frozen Platypus why he created the Sith-inator by performing a musical number alongside a group of dancers. In the performance, Darthenshmirtz explained that he was weak in the Force due to his low midi-chlorian count and also generally treated like an outsider. He also revealed that he planned to use the Sith-inator on himself, which would vastly increase his ability in the Force, hoping that his ability would gain him notoriety and status in the Empire and the galaxy as a whole and make him a true member of the Sith, an order of evil wielders of the dark side of the Force. After his performance, the scientist resumed speaking directly to Perry and explained that he planned make himself incredibly evil with the Sith-inator, but that he was going to test it on Perry before using it on himself to ensure it was safe. He added that if it worked, Perry could join him on the dark side of the Force and they could be "Sith buddies." He activated the machine, but Fletcher, who had sensed in the Force that Perry was in trouble, arrived last second and knocked Perry off of the wall before the beam from the machine could hit him. Consequently, the beam hit Fletcher and transformed him into a Sith. Before leaving to get fuel for the Sith-inator, Darthenshmirtz told Perry to stay there and that he would be back to turn Perry into a Sith too, suggesting that he, Fletcher, and Perry could be the "Three Sith-keteers."[1]

Fighting back[]

Perry escapes his carbonite case.

Perry's carbonite block was damaged when it was thrown off of the wall, so eventually it deactivated and Perry was released from it. When Darthenshmirtz and Norm-3PO returned, Perry jumped up from behind a box and shot Norm-3PO with a mist that electrocuted and immobilized the droid. Perry quickly ran to the Sith-inator, pulled off a panel on it, and started to mess with it until Darthenshmirtz noticed him and told him to stay away from the machine. The two engaged in hand-to-hand combat and Perry knocked Darthenshmirtz out of the recycling compartment.[1]

Perry pushed Darthenshmirtz through a wall into the Imperial Credit Union, and Darthenshmirtz taunted him by telling him to try it again, so Perry kicked him through a wall again. In a hallway, Darthenshmirtz threw Perry off of him and threatened him by saying he was going to use a lightsaber on him. Perry was initially concerned until Darthenshmirtz realized that he only had a flashlight on him and started running away from Perry. Darthenshmirtz ran over a bridge across a large shaft and retracted it before Perry could go across it. Darthenshmirtz taunted him and told Perry that he needed to give up because he would never reach him. Perry pulled out a grappling rope, and though Darthenshmirtz still taunted him and doubted that he would be able to successfully swing across, threw it across so that it would attach to Darthenshmirtz's belt, pulling both of them off the edge. As they fell the rope caught onto another bridge and left them both swinging from it, so Perry kicked Darthenshmirtz through the wall of the shaft and jumped through the hole into another hallway.[1]

Mission success[]

"Ah, Agent P! With you stopping Darthenshmirtz and the Rebellion destroying the Death Star, this day will be long remembered."
―Major Hologram to Perry[1]

Perry and Darthenshmirtz eventually fell through the ceiling of the recycling compartment. Darthenshmirtz tried to get away from Perry but fell into the carbon-freezing chamber and was frozen in carbonite. Perry then noticed Flynn being knocked to the ground by Fletcher, who had turned into a Sith warrior called Darth Ferb. Perry was shocked and ran over to help Flynn, but Darth Ferb picked Perry up with the Force and threw him into a pile of garbage. After Flynn destroyed the Sith-inator and Fletcher returned to normal, Perry helped look for Fletcher until Flynn found his stepbrother.[1]

Perry started pushing a carbonite-frozen Darthenshmirtz out of the recycling compartment, so Flynn said goodbye to Perry and told the Platypus not to be a stranger, with Perry waving back. Perry left the Death Star shortly before it exploded with Darthenshmirtz in his ship. Major Hologram contacted him to commend him, but warned that there still could have been copies of the Death Star plans somewhere, which concerned Perry. Noticing a gray liquid on the ship's floor behind him, Perry followed it and discovered that Darthenshmirtz had escaped the carbonite block. Darthenshmirtz said goodbye to Perry before jumping in and ejecting an escape pod. Shortly after, Perry attended the[1] Royal Award Ceremony[2] and an afterparty at[1] the Great Temple on the moon Yavin 4,[2] where he danced with Princess Organa.[1]

Personality and traits[]

―Phineas Flynn, to Perry as they parted ways[1]

Perry communicates with hand gestures and chattering sounds.

Perry was a Platypus male with teal fur, brown eyes, a duck-like bill, and a flat orange tail. Perry communicated by making chattering sounds and with hand gestures or nods. He was a disciplined and focused agent working tirelessly against the Galactic Empire, though he was annoyed by not having breaks between missions. He was courageous, taking on several dangerous missions without pause, and immediately jumped into action when he was needed. Perry had a good and honorable reputation, as both Major Hologram and Princess Organa of the Rebel Alliance believed they could always count on him.[1]

Despite his serious façade, Perry cared deeply for and showed affection to his former owners Flynn and Fletcher. When he reunited with them on the Death Star, Perry immediately ran to hug them after he saw them and allowed them to pick him up. He was deeply concerned to see Flynn in danger and threatened by Fletcher when he turned into Darth Ferb and attempted to rescue Flynn, though Perry's effort was useless against the Sith.[1]

Skills and abilities[]

"I would like to see you try that again."
―Heinz Darthenshmirtz, as he fought Perry[1]
Perrykicksdarthenshmirtz

Perry kicks Darthenshmirtz.

Perry was a skilled combatant, being able to fight well in hand-to-hand combat and handle a variety of weaponry. His intelligence allowed him to stop a few of Darthenshmirtz's evil schemes. He was a capable pilot and was able to evade an Imperial Star Destroyer while flying a shuttle. Perry was very skilled at espionage and staying out of sight while performing infiltrations, doing so successfully on multiple occasions. This was largely due to his small size, which Perry also took advantage of to fit in vents and other small spaces. His agility also made it hard for bigger enemies to hit him, and his considerable strength allowed him to kick Darthenshmirtz through several thick walls.[1]

Equipment[]

Perry wore a green hat and tunic with a brown tool belt with a pouch on it. He stored a grappling hook rope in the belt's pouch.[1] In combat, Perry utilized an electrostaff during his mission to rescue other agents. He also wore a wrist magnet to disarm enemies by pulling their blasters to him and often then used their blasters against them.[3] He piloted two different starships, one a shuttle that resembled his physical features as well as a ship he used while fleeing the Death Star.[1]

Perry wore a small holoprojector on his wrist that he used to communicate with Major Hologram. He also had a device that could emit an electric charge which he once used to disable a ray shield. He once used a gun which shot out a mist that electrocuted a droid. On one occasion, Perry used a pot to bake a cake and used hand protection to handle it. He also used a knife to decorate the cake with frosting. He also carried a rag with the Rebel Alliance's insignia on it that he used to wipe his sweat.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

JediPerry-Poster

Perry depicted as a Jedi in a promotional poster

Perry the Rebel-pus was created for the TV special Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars, a crossover with the Disney Channel series Phineas and Ferb.[1] The special premiered on July 26, 2014.[7] He was first mentioned on July 19, 2013 as Agent P in a StarWars.com article revealing that the special had been announced that day at San Diego Comic-Con.[8] He first appeared in a promotional game for the special titled Agent P: Rebel Spy, which released on June 20, 2014.[9] He also appeared in the promotional game Droid Masters on June 30, 2014 before the special released, though only an image of him appeared at the end of each level of the game and he was not actually present in the game's story or plot.[10]

The character is based on Perry the Platypus, his counterpart from the main continuity of Phineas and Ferb, and is voiced by the same voice actor, Dee Bradley Baker, who also voiced Chewbacca in the special,[1] and previously voiced the clone troopers in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.[11] This version of Perry, who is depicted stealing the Death Star plans in Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars,[1] predated the 2016[12] film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which depicts Rebel agents Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor stealing the Death Star plans.[13] Perry was depicted as a Jedi wielding a green lightsaber in multiple promotional images,[14][15] though he was never seen wielding any lightsaber or shown any sign of being a Force-sensitive individual.[1][3]

Early concept art for the fight between Perry and Darthenshmirtz

Co-creator of Phineas and Ferb Dan Povenmire[1] revealed on Twitter that a cut scene from the special featured a much larger-scale fight between Perry and Darthenshmirtz in a location filled with stormtroopers performing recreational activities. In the scene, Perry stands on a pool float in a pool filled with relaxing stormtroopers while using a blaster to shoot the side of the pool and send water toward Darthenshmirtz, who has a dianoga in a backpack on his back that is throwing a billiard table at Perry.[6] Other scrapped elements of this fight included Perry fighting Darthenshmirtz in a gym with stormtroopers using exercise weights[16] and Perry dodging a red lightsaber and bolts from a blaster both being held by Darthenshmirtz's dianoga.[17]
