The Patriot Fist was a Recusant-class light destroyer that served within the naval forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. In 19 BBY, the destroyer participated in an unprecedented assault on the Galactic Republic's capital world of Coruscant, alongside a large Separatist fleet commanded by General Grievous in an attempt to capture Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine.

Description[]

A Recusant-class light destroyer, the Patriot Fist possessed a command bridge that was located at the starship's forward sections, while at its stern,[1] the warship was propelled by multiple thrusters. Armed with a single prow heavy turbolaser cannon alongside several other heavy turbolaser cannons, the Patriot Fist was also equipped with a series of electromagnetic sensor antennas along the dorsal surface of its hull, with a neutrino radiator grille on its starboard hull.[2] Furthermore, the starboard side of the destroyer's hull was emblazoned with the emblem of the Confederacy of Independent Systems alongside several blue and white markings.[1]

History[]

Ep3BatofCor

The Patriot Fist participated in the Battle of Coruscant.

In 19 BBY,[3] during the final days of the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems,[4] the Patriot Fist participated in[1] an unprecedented assault on Coruscant,[4] the capital planet of the Republic.[5] Alongside a large fleet of Separatist warships led by General Grievous, such as Lucrehulk-class Battleships, Munificent-class star frigates, and other Recusant-class light destroyers,[6] the Patriot Fist was utilized in Grievous's attempt to capture Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, the leader of the Republic.[4]

During the battle, the Patriot Fist and the rest of the Separatist fleet were engaged by the Republic's defense fleet of hundreds of Star Destroyers,[7] such as Venator-class Star Destroyers,[1] many of which were reduced to flaming wreckage by the Separatist forces.[7] Amid the engagement, the destroyer became surrounded by many of its accompanying warships, while three Vulture-class droid starfighters flew by its starboard hull.[1]

However, while the fleets, including the Patriot Fist, continued to engage one another, Republic forces rescued the Chancellor from the general's grip aboard Grievous's flagship, the Providence-class Dreadnought Invisible Hand. As a result of Palpatine's subsequent return to safety, Grievous, who had fled his command ship,[4] ordered the immediate withdrawal of his remaining forces from the battle, which led to the loss of a third of the Confederacy naval forces[6] involved in the battle.[8]

Behind the scenes[]

The Patriot Fist was first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the 2021 Recusant-class Destroyer Expansion Pack to the Star Wars: Armada miniatures game published by Fantasy Flight Games.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Patriot Fist was introduced in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Incredible Cross-Sections, a 2005 reference book authored by Curtis Saxton.[9]
