Sometime around 230 BBY,[2] leader of the Nihil Marchion Ro and a group of Nihil devoted to him called the She'ar undertook a mission to[1] Planet X[3] to retrieve many members of the Nameless species. Ro hoped to use them against the Jedi Order because the Nameless preyed upon Force-sensitives. Driven by knowledge passed down through the generations of his family, Ro began the mission by sacrificing many Nihil strikeships and their Nihil scout pilots to the planet's tempestuous outer layer he called the veil. By preoccupying the veil with the strikeships, Ro and the She'ar managed to sneak through it in the Cloudship Ikoru. After activating[1] the Rod of Seasons, a one of a set of special ancient rod that could control the Nameless,[4] in order to call the Nameless to him, Ro and the She'ar were attacked by many creatures and fauna of the planet, as well as the planet itself, because every part of it was alive. Ro and the She'ar secured several Nameless aboard the Ikoru and escaped the planet, but many members of the She'ar were killed.[1]

The mission also resulted in a number of Nameless eggs being recovered. All but one of the eggs rotted or hatched in a debilitated state that the creatures had to be killed. The sole remaining Nameless from the eggs—one that came to be called Grendrek—was owned by the teenage Umbaran scientist Niv Drendow Apruk.[3] Despite this,[5] by 228 BBY,[6] Ro still had a few eggs left.[5]
