- "According to Creed, one may only be redeemed in the living waters beneath the mines of Mandalore."
"But the mines have all been destroyed."
"This is the way." - ―The Armorer and Din Djarin
The Living Waters was a ceremonial ground located in the Mines of Mandalore, under the Civic Center in the city of Sundari on Mandalore.[1]
History[]
- "If I visit the planet and I can bring you proof that I have bathed in the Living Waters beneath the mines of Mandalore, then by Creed, the decree of exile will be lifted and I would be redeemed."
- ―Din Djarin to the Armorer
The Mines dated back to the age of the Mandalore the Great; and existed thousands of years before the time of the New Republic. According to the ancient Mandalorian folklore, the mines were once a mythosaur lair. Before the Great Purge of Mandalore, the Living Waters was utilized as a ceremonial ground where the royal family would bathe in the water. Bo-Katan Kryze reminded Din Djarin that she was a part of the royal family and did the ceremony.[2] According to the Mandalorian Creed, a Mandalorian apostate who took off their helmet and sought atonement could be redeemed in the Living Waters.[3] After the Purge, the Children of the Watch believed the Mines were collapsed in the Purge, making the Living Waters inaccessible. However, they did not collapse, and instead the Purge triggered seismic activities that made the Waters go deeper.[4]
Djarin went on a mission to the Living Waters to redeem himself and remove his decree of exile.[1] Eventually he was able to bathe in the Waters. However, he lost his consciousness and was rescued by Kryze, who witnessed a living mythosaur in the Waters,[2] unbeknownst to Djarin. They later returned to the covert to prove that Djarin was redeemed. Paz Vizsla doubted their claims, saying the mines were collapsed in the Purge. However, Djarin brought a proof from the Living Waters, and the Armorer confirmed its authenticity.[4]
Description[]
Mounted to the wall near the entrance of the ceremonial chamber was an aged metal plaque with a Mando'a inscription reading:
LIVING WATERS
THESE MINES DATE BACK TO THE AGE OF THE FIRST
MANDALORE. ACCORDING TO THE ANCIENT FOLKLORE THE
MINES WERE ONCE A MYTHOSAUR LAIR. MANDALORE THE
GREAT DEFEATED AND THEN RODE THE MYTHICAL BEAST. IT
IS FROM THESE LEGENDS THAT THE SKULL SIGNET WAS
ADOPTED AND BECAME THE SYMBOL OF OUR PLANET.
Interestingly, when Bo-Katan Kryze read the plaque to Din Djarin, she misread "Mandalore the Great defeated and rode the mythical beast" as "Mandalore the Great is said to have tamed the mythical beast."[2]
