Kalist VI, also known simply as Kalist, was a barren rocky planet located in the Deep Core. It was the homeworld of rebel pilot Dak Ralter, who joined Rogue Squadron of the Rebel Alliance. During the Imperial Era, Kalist VI housed a high-surveillance Galactic Empire penal colony.

Description[]

Kalist VI,[5] also known simply as Kalist,[6] was a barren and rocky planet located in the dregs of the Deep Core.[3] It was situated in grid square K-12 of the Standard Galactic Grid[1] and also constituted a part of the Interior.[2]

History[]

Rebel pilot, Dak Ralter, who was born on Kalist VI

During the Imperial Era, the Galactic Empire maintained a high-surveillance penal colony on the planet,[4] although there were no judges or courts present. Prisoners on the planet received only life sentences. Imperial guards would beat prisoners with steel and, for the sake of humor, force them to serve on firing squads, watching inmates beg their friends and family members not to shoot.[3]

Kalist VI was the homeworld of the rebel pilot Dak Ralter, who was born to a family of human political prisoners[4] in the planet's Scargon region.[3] Ralter escaped the world with bright ambitions,[4] joining Rogue Squadron of the Alliance to Restore the Republic[7] with the goal of bringing about the downfall of the Empire;[8] however, he was killed in the Battle of Hoth[4] in 3 ABY.[9]

In 34 ABY,[10] Chandrila Star Line's Star Cruiser Halcyon passed by Kalist VI on a cruise from the Core Worlds' Chandrila system to the Outer Rim Territories. Several screens aboard the starship displayed a partial map of the galaxy that indicated Kalist VI's position.[11]

Behind the scenes[]

Kalist VI was first mentioned in the 2015 mobile application Star Wars: Card Trader.[5] It was subsequently given its shorter designation of "Kalist" by the thirty-sixth issue of De Agostini's Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon magazine,[12] published around September 5, 2015.[13] Kalist VI made its first in-universe appearance in the form of depiction on a map viewable in Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, an immersive roleplaying experience at the Walt Disney World Resort hotel in Florida[11] that opened to the public on March 1, 2022.[14]

In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Kalist VI was first mentioned in the 1989 West End Games' sourcebook Galaxy Guide 3: The Empire Strikes Back, written by Michael Stern.[15] It first appeared in the thirty-sixth issue of the Star Wars: Empire comic series,[16] written by Randy Stradley[17] under the Welles Hartley pseudonym, illustrated by Davidé Fabbri, and released by Dark Horse Comics[16] on October 12, 2005.[17]
