Immalia was an Expansion Region celestial body located in the Immalia sector, home to the Humans known as Immalians. During the Waymancy Storm, the Signatories of Waymancy carried out an orbital bombardment of Immalia, which was halted by the Galactic Republic via the use of the experimental cannonship Squintpipe.
Millennia later, the astronomical object was the site of fighting between Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance forces. When the Alliance force noticed an Imperial squad donning radiation zone assault trooper armor, the Rebels incorrectly assumed they were fighting in a radioactive area and retreated.
Description[]
Immalia was a terrestrial astronomical object[3] located in the Immalia system. It was a part of the Expansion Region's Immalia sector, being located both in the Outer Expansion Zone sub-region and the Northern Dependencies portion of that region.[1]
History[]
Republic warfare[]
By the time of the Waymancy Storm[7] of 7811 BBY,[6] a hyperspace jump beacon was situated in the vicinity of Immalia. During that conflict, the Signatories of Waymancy carried out an orbital bombardment of the celestial body. The Galactic Republic cannonship Squintpipe, equipped with an experimental deflector shield generator and an energy skin, threaded the formation of the Signatories' starships. As a result, the bombardment was ended and the surviving vessels of the Republic's enemy rushed to the jump beacon to escape the star system. At a speech delivered on the 25th anniversary of Victory in the Waymancy Storm in 7786 BBY, the Republic's Supreme Chancellor Nagratha noted the Republic action at Immalia as one of the heroic moments of the Waymancy Storm.[7]
When the first campaigns of the Clone Wars were waged between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems in 22 BBY, the Fifteenth Army of the Republic Military, based in the Inner Rim's Bilbringi system, was tasked with defending the territory known as the Immalia Oversector against the military forces of the Confederacy.[6]
Galactic Civil War[]

At some point during the Galactic Civil War, which was fought between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance[3] from 2 BBY to 4 ABY,[8] Immalia was the site of fighting between Imperial and Rebel forces, the latter of which included Alliance General Carlist Rieekan. During the confrontation, the Empire outfitted a squad of soldiers with radiation zone assault trooper armor. When the Rebel force spotted the approaching squad, it assumed the presence of radtroopers meant the combat was occurring in an area that had been contaminated by radiation and subsequently retreated.[3]
Rieekan later learned the true circumstances of the incident on Immalia, which[3] he[9] recorded in a margin note in a captured copy of the an Imperial Military manual Imperial Handbook: A Commander's Guide.[3] Immalia later fell within the borders of the Rebel Alliance's successor, the New Republic, between 12 ABY and 13 ABY.[6]
Inhabitants[]

Immalia was home to[4] the Human[10] population known as the Immalians. They attempted to colonize Mayvitch 7, a moon in the[5] nearby[6] Chalenor system,[5] establishing mining operations there[10] by 33 BBY[11] as well as a small outpost for defense against pirate attacks. That year, the warlike Yinchorri launched an attack on the Mayvitch 7 colony,[10] killing most of its population.[5]
Behind the scenes[]
The name "Immalia" was used to refer to the Immalia star system in the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, authored by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry;[2] the StarWars.com Online Companion to that book;[12] and the 2012 book The Essential Guide to Warfare by Fry and Paul R. Urquhart.[6] The Essential Atlas placed the system in grid square K-8.[2]
A reference to Immalia as a distinct astronomical object was originally meant to be included in a section authored by Wallace for The Essential Guide to Warfare; however, the section was cut before the book's release. The information regarding Immalia was later released in 2014 as part of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut, a series of articles published on the StarWars.com Blog by Fry and[7] Del Rey editor[13] Erich Schoeneweiss containing various cut content from The Essential Guide to Warfare.[7]
