The Hunting Hound was a heavy cruiser that served within the New Republic's fleet. During the New Republic's attack on the Galactic Empire's forces at the planet Jakku in 5 ABY, the cruiser was targeted and destroyed by the Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing. After looking into the loss of contact with the Hunting Hound, the New Republic General Hera Syndulla was able to deduce the 204th's activity above Jakku.

The heavy cruiser Hunting Hound served in the fleet of the New Republic during the Galactic Civil War.[1] In 5 ABY,[2] it was one of many New Republic starships that participated in a large assault on the Galactic Empire's loyalist forces at the planet Jakku. During the fighting, the Hunting Hound, having been positioned at the fringe of the battle, was targeted by the Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing, which produced a particle radiation effect to hide from scanners and sever the heavy cruiser's communications.[1]
The Hunting Hound fell to the 204th shortly thereafter, and its loss in communication was noticed by comscan officer Dhina aboard the New Republic's refitted Star Destroyer Deliverance. General Hera Syndulla had Dhina obtain sensor confirmation to determine the heavy cruiser's fate. After learning that the Hunting Hound and two other heavy cruisers located at the fringe of the battle, the Brightsaber and Serenade, had lost communication the same way, Syndulla deduced that the 204th was responsible for the losses of the cruisers.[1]
