- "We've lost contact with the Brightsaber, General. Last transmission indicated—"
- ―Dhina, to Hera Syndulla
The Brightsaber was a heavy cruiser that served within the fleet of the New Republic. It took part in the New Republic's attack on the Galactic Empire's forces at the planet Jakku in 5 ABY, where it was targeted and destroyed by the Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing. After investigating the loss of contact with the cruiser, the New Republic General Hera Syndulla was able to discover the 204th's actions above Jakku.
History[]
- "They're using the radiation to hide from scanners and sever our ships' communications. After they blind and deafen their target, we can assume they hit hard and fast; we've already lost three heavy cruisers."
- ―Hera Syndulla describes how the Brightsaber was lost
During the Galactic Civil War, the heavy cruiser Brightsaber served in the New Republic's New Republic Defense Fleet.[1] In 5 ABY,[2] it was among the many New Republic starships that took part in a large attack on the loyalist forces of the Galactic Empire at the planet Jakku. During the fighting, the Brightsaber was positioned at the fringe of the battle and exchanged coordinates and vectors with the New Republic's refitted Star Destroyer Deliverance before it was targeted by the Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing.[1]
The 204th produced a particle radiation effect to hide from scanners and sever the Brightsaber's communications, allowing the fighter wing to silently destroy the heavy cruiser. The cruisers loss in communication was noticed by comscan officer Dhina aboard the Deliverance. General Hera Syndulla had Dhina play the last communications with the Brightsaber after learning that it was one of three heavy cruisers located at the fringe of the battle, including the Hunting Hound and Serenade, that had lost communication. Hearing the static fill the channel, Syndulla deduced that the 204th was responsible for the losses of the cruisers.[1]
