This article is about the massiff. You may be looking for the Mandalorian warrior, Grizzer.

"Come on, Grizzer. There's nothing here."
―"Hound," to Grizzer[1]

Advanced Recon Force Scout Trooper Hound and their massiff Grizzer were members of the Grand Army of the Republic, stationed in the Republic Center for Military Operations on the planet Coruscant during the Clone Wars. In 20 BBY, Grizzer almost found Ahsoka Tano, a Jedi framed for murder and pursued by Galactic Republic forces. Despite failing to locate her, she was spotted by CC-1010 "Fox" and pursued by Grizzer, Hound and other clones before escaping into Coruscant's lower levels.

Biography[]

Grizzer, a massiff owned by ARF Trooper Hound, was stationed on[1] the planet[2] Coruscant in the Republic Center for Military Operations[1] in 20 BBY,[3] during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. That standard year, Jedi Commander Ahsoka Tano had been framed for the murder of Letta Turmond, who was imprisoned in the facility.[1]

Tano was in the process of escaping the base and had exited the building. She was hiding behind a statue of a clone trooper when Grizzer and Hound, along with other clones, passed by. Grizzer stopped and sniffed, detecting the Jedi. The massiff turned and pounced where Tano had been, finding the position empty. Hound pulled on Grizzer's leash and called on the reptile to continue the search. Tano, who had climbed upon the statue to evade the pair, was subsequently spotted by Clone Commander CC-1010 "Fox." Alerted to her presence, Grizzer, Hound, and other members of the Grand Army of the Republic gave chase past the First Battle Memorial, eventually losing her in an industrial pipe system where she would continue to evade capture, escaping to Coruscant's lower levels.[1]

Personality and traits[]

The black-eyed massiff's scaled skin was charcoal gray, with a yellow pattern on their back.[1]

Skills and abilities[]

Grizzer's sense of smell was keen, enough that they sensed Ahsoka's presence from her hiding spot behind the statue base, but it was insufficient to locate her when she moved to the top of the statue.[1]

Equipment[]

The massiff wore a brown crossbody harness with a leash attached, held by Hound to assist in controlling and directing Grizzer.[1]

Grizzer first appeared in the fifth season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series' eighteenth episode, titled "The Jedi Who Knew Too Much,"[4] which aired on February 16, 2013.[5] The massiff subsequently appeared in the miniature game Star Wars: Legion's LAAT/le Patrol Transport Unit Expansion, combined with Hound as a single pilot card for the Republic affiliated LAAT/le patrol gunship. The duo granted an ability to the gunship to force opposing units to reroll their defensive die, improving the probability of a successful attack by the player.[6] Despite this, the episode did not feature the LAAT/le, only showing the LAAT/i transport.[1] In addition, the subsequent episode which featured the LAAT/le gunship, lacked both massiffs and ARF Troopers.[7] The image on the card was illustrated by Borja Pindado.[8]
