You've heard about Forum:CT:Sourcing revamp and Forum:CT:Sourcing revamp revamp, now get ready for Forum:CT:Sourcing revamp revamp revamp. Following a round of feedback over in the Senate Hall, the time has come to put this Sourcing policy rewrite to a vote. The proposed rewrite can be found here (diff).
Notable additions
- A section on complicated/explanatory references (e.g. date refs)
- A small section on transcluded references (like those in the Year infobox)
- A comprehensive list of exceptions to referential need
- The Citations section of the Manual of Style has been moved to this policy
Other notable changes
- Codified a number of established practices:
- References in parentheses
- The usage of {{BookCite}} over a custom MLA-style reference
- Reflist formatting will be moved to the Layout Guide
Again, the purpose of this rewrite is not to change existing policy and practice but rather to improve the readability and structure of our policy pages. Thanks to Imperators, NanoLuuke, and others who have helped with feedback. 1358 (Talk) 17:03, 24 October 2022 (UTC)

- It doesn't really matter, but I'm pretty sure the reference rule should be for a clone trooper's height, not length. RogueWhistler (talk) 19:13, 24 October 2022 (UTC)

- Sorry about this late objection, but I just thought of this. For systems in the Star Wars: The Essential Atlas Online Companion, planets being in the system are just sourced to the source that mentioned the planet. eg. in the Ord Janon system article, Ord Jandon being in the Ord Janon system is sourced to The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, which does not mention the Ord Janon system. Under the current policy this would change. What would you source for things being in TEAOC systems? -ThrawnChiss7 (talk) 00:46, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- This would not change. Modern status article precedent is (in the absence of sources that explicitly place planet X in X system) to source X system on planet X's article to (as appropriate) The Essential Atlas or its Online Companion; and planet X on X system's article to whatever source names the planet. This is done so because it is a form of shortcut for always sourcing planet X and X system in said situations to this tweet by Jason Fry. We are sidestepping it in order to concentrate on the sources that establish the existence of said objects as opposed to ones that establish the relations between them. - Okay, that makes sense. I think this should be codified in the policy at some point, becuase our source policy says that you can't source a planet being in a system to a source that doesn't mention the system. (Maybe another SH and CT) -ThrawnChiss7 (talk) 12:25, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
