Presentation[]
This proposal is a follow-up to the naming policy amendments that originated from Forum:CT:Naming policy: Canon comic books and Forum:CT:Italics in Canon comic issues. These previous proposals dealt exclusively with Canon comics, and today's long-overdue, two-part proposal brings Legends into the fold.
Part I: Story names in article titles[]
Explanation[]
The story names of individual comic books are often included in article titles, but they shouldn't be. For example, Star Wars 108 is preferred over Star Wars 108: Forever Crimson. The previous CT dealt exclusively with Canon comics, and this one brings it home with Legends. As such, two primary publishers are relevant to this discussion: Marvel Comics and Dark Horse Comics.
- Marvel makes it easy. They don't use story names in any of their comic book titles. Let's take a look at something old and something new, Star Wars 1 and Star Wars 108: Forever Crimson. The indicia of both print editions do not state a story name. ("STAR WARS […] Vol. 1, No. 1" and "STAR WARS No. 108.") Star Comics, an imprint of Marvel, also operates this way.
- Dark Horse is a bit trickier, but we reach the same conclusion. After reviewing hundreds of numbered issues from Dark Horse, I found only one exception to the rule: the six-issue miniseries Star Wars: The Old Republic. The credits in issue 1 say "STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC #1—THREAT OF PEACE #1," and the subsequent issues are formatted the same way. Although this formatting is used consistently by Star Wars: The Old Republic, it is clearly an outlier, and mainstream retailers—including DarkHorse.com—do not state story names for these issues.
- All remaining comics publishers, such as Blackthorne Publishing, also follow this rule.
Proposal[]
This proposal is to amend Wookieepedia:Naming policy#Individual comic issues. The new policy will read:
- Do not include story names in the article titles of individual comic book issues (examples: Star Wars 108, not Star Wars 108: Forever Crimson; Kanan 1, not Kanan 1: The Last Padawan, Part I: Fight; Lando 1, not Lando, Part I).
A full list of affected articles can be viewed here.
Part II: Italics and number sign[]
Explanation[]
As explained in Forum:CT:Italics in Canon comic issues, the issue numbers of individual comic books should not be italicized. Although neither Marvel nor Dark Horse offer much insight into the matter, this formatting is common industry practice and is often used by StarWars.com articles (1, 2), as well as the Launchpad and Blaster sections of Star Wars Insider magazines.
Proposal[]
This proposal is to amend Wookieepedia:Naming policy#Italics and number sign and Wookieepedia:Manual of Style#Italics and miscellaneous grammar. The updated naming policy will read:
- Do not italicize the issue number in the article titles of individual comic books (examples: Legacy 18, Marvel Comics 1000, Doctor Aphra 38, Star Wars Adventures 28).
Secondly, the Manual of Style will be updated to read as follows:
- Do not italicize the issue numbers of individual comic books (examples: Legacy 18, Marvel Comics 1000, Doctor Aphra 38, Star Wars Adventures 28).
Please keep in mind that these amendments do not affect trade paperbacks, hardcover collections, magazines, or short-form comic stories. - Cwedin(talk) 03:19, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

- While I'm not familiar with comic books much, I'm seeing several comic book junkies supporting this, and I'm always down for consistency across the board. MasterFred(talk) 06:03, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Discussion[]
- To clarify one point: This CT does not affect issues 1–3 of Star Wars Handbook, since those sources specifically contain subtitles and not story names. - Cwedin(talk) 16:43, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
