The Din Pulsar was located in the Din system, a part of the Din Nebula in the Outer Rim Territories' Moddell sector. It was formed when a supernova destroyed the star Din around 5000 BBY, and it retained in its orbit the three cores of the former star's gas giant planets. Millennia later, the magnetic pulses emitted by the pulsar hindered travel along the nearby Trindello-Endor Route hyperlane.

The Din Pulsar was a remnant of a supernova that destroyed the star Din around 5000 BBY. Situated within the Din system,^[3] it lay within the Outer Moddell systems area of^[2] the Moddell sector,^[1] one of the subsectors making up the Inner Zuma Region^[2] within the Outer Rim Territories' Zuma sector.^[1] The Din system was situated adjacent to the hyperlane known as the Trindello-Endor Route, which connected it to the Endor and Trindello systems.^[2]

The whirling and flashing pulsar was orbited by the three cores—one of them a diamond the size of a terrestrial world—of Din's former outer gas giant–type planets. The Din Pulsar was also surrounded by the nebulosity known as the Din Nebula.^[3]

History[]

During the century leading up to the Yuuzhan Vong War,^[3] which began in 25 ABY,^[2] the combination of magnetic pulses emitted by the Din Pulsar and filaments of gas from the Din Nebula made the Trindello-Endor Route increasingly unstable, extending travel times along it and frying the hyperdrives of numerous starships. At some point following the Battle of Endor^[3] of 4 ABY,^[2] Ur-Dean Emeritus Beryl Suttrige of^[3] the planet^[4] Charmath's College of Astrocartography expressed their interest in seeing the diamond core orbiting the Din Pulsar.^[3]

Behind the scenes[]

The Din Pulsar was first mentioned in the article "Endor and the Moddell Sector," which was published in the ninth issue of the Star Wars Gamer magazine^[3] on February 22, 2002.^[5] In 2008, The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia claimed that the entity known as Tilotny existed near the Din Pulsar,^[6] but the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas overrode that placement by establishing that she resided near the Bedlam Pulsar instead. The Essential Atlas also placed the Din Pulsar in grid square H-16.^[2]
