For other uses, see Din (disambiguation).

The Din Nebula, known to the Ewoks of the Endor system as the Gorax King's Heart, was a red-colored nebula located in the Outer Rim Territories' Moddell sector. Along with the Din Pulsar, it constituted the remains of the star Din, which had exploded in a supernova around 5000 BBY. At some point, survey droids penetrated the Din Nebula and reached the Din system.

Description[]

The Din Nebula was a part of the Moddell sector,[1] one of the subsectors making up the Inner Zuma Region[2] within the Outer Rim Territories' Zuma sector.[1] By the time of the Yuuzhan Vong War,[3] which began in 25 ABY,[2] the nebula was an expanding cloud of shimmering red gases, and it surrounded the Din Pulsar.[3]

History[]

EwokNEGAS

The Din Nebula featured in the mythology of the Ewoks.

The Din Nebula was formed around 5000 BBY, when the star Din of the Din system exploded in a supernova. During the century leading up to the Yuuzhan Vong War, the combination of magnetic pulses from the remaining pulsar and filaments of gas from the nebula made the adjacent hyperlane known as the Trindello-Endor Route increasingly unstable.[3]

The Ewok species of the Endor system called the Din Nebula the Gorax King's Heart, in reference to a myth wherein their sun god imprisoned the being known as the Gorax King in the night sky of the moon Endor. The Gorax King was said to have subsequently swallowed his most treasured possession, a large diamond, which reached his heart and remained in Endor's sky when the rest of the Gorax King's body melted away after his death. At some point, survey droids penetrated the Din Nebula and made their way to the Din system where they discovered that, unusually, the stripped core of one of Din's former gas giant planets was indeed a diamond the size of a terrestrial world.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

The Din Nebula was first mentioned in the article "Endor and the Moddell Sector," which was published in the ninth issue of the Star Wars Gamer magazine[3] on February 22, 2002.[4] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed it in grid square H-16.[2]
