"I am Tawni Ames, Governor of Desix. State your business here."
"I am here to relieve you of your title, Mistress Ames, by order of the Galactic Empire."
"As I have told your government, Desix does not fall under Imperial jurisdiction. Take your forces and leave peacefully."
―Governor Tawni Ames and Imperial Governor Grotton[1]

The Separatist holdout was located on the planet Desix led by Governor Tawni Ames, with the second in command being a T-series tactical droid. The Separatist holdout was formed after the formation of the Galactic Empire. Between 19 BBY and 18 BBY,[2] the Empire appointed Governor Grotton as the new governor of Desix. With the Empire still not recognizing their independence, the newly appointed governor and his TK trooper squad were taken hostage by the holdout. This led to the mission to Desix and the dissolution of the holdout.[1]

Description[]

"Intel is limited, but here's what we know: Separatist insurgents, armed with a battalion of battle droids, have seized the city and taken Governor Grotton hostage."
"Battle droids? Didn't they receive the shutdown order?"
"They could have been reprogrammed."
―Commander Cody, an Imperial clone trooper, and Crosshair[1]

Much of the military of the holdout were droid assets from the previous Confederacy of Independent Systems. A droid battalion comprised of at least twenty B1-series battle droids, several BX-series droid commandos, several droidekas, an air strike team, an OOM command battle droid, and a Armored Assault Tank Mk I reprogrammed to protect Desix from hostile Imperial takeover. They were led by a T-series tactical droid reporting directly to Governor Tawni Ames.[1]

History[]

"Your loyalty and determination are commendable. Which is why I have a mission for you on the planet Desix. As far as Separatist worlds are concerned, it's rather remote. I normally wouldn't pay it any mind, but an issue has arisen."
"What are my orders?"
"The newly appointed Imperial governor has been taken hostage by insurgents demanding Desix be recognized as an independent planet. [scoffs] But we do not negotiate. You're being sent in under the guise of discussing a diplomatic resolution. Once you arrive, do whatever is necessary to secure the city and ensure Governor Grotton's release."
―Vice Admiral Rampart and Croshair, discussing the nature of the holdout[1]

During the mission to Desix, these forces were split into one squad that protected the outskirts of Desix City at a bridge, an air strike team located at the walls of the city, several squads patrolling inside the city and a squad made up of only commando droids located inside the bell tower, where Ames and the T-series tactical droid were located.[1]

When an Imperial Nu-class attack/transport shuttle arrived at the planet, Ames ordered the Tactical Droid to open fire on the shuttle. The Tactical Droid complied and ordered the old Separatist Tank and the Air Strike Team to fire on the shuttle leading to the shuttle crashing at Sector Five in the farmlands. When the shuttle crashed, Ames then ordered the Tactical Droid to send scouts to the wreckage and check for survivors.[1]

When scouts in the form of five B1 battle droids were sent to the wreckage, they found no survivors and contacted the Tactical Droid. The Tactical Droid then ordered the B1 Battle Droids to head back to the fortified city. However, just before the battle droids were about to leave, what remained of Crosshair and Cody's team opened fire at the B1 Battle Droids thereby giving the squad some time.[1]

The squad then traversed the terrain and arrived at a bridge connecting a city to the Farmlands. While the squad was discussing how to enter the city, CT-9904 suggested that he will draw the tanks fire while the rest of the squad advanced to the Main Gate. Cody, after some convincing, agreed and Crosshair used his 773 Firepuncher rifle to purposefully miss hitting the droids operating a tank. This caused the tank to re-position towards Crosshairs position allowing him to fire a shot at the barrel of the tank thereby causing the tank to explode. With the tank destroyed, Cody and his men advanced towards the main gate while Crosshair provided covering fire. With the droid air strike team dealt with, Cody and some clone troopers rappelled to the top of the main gate and opened the gate allowing the rest of Cody's squad including Crosshair to enter the city.[1]

After entering the city, Cody split his forces with team two taking the south part of the city while Cody, Crosshair, Nova, and Wyler took the north part. This led to the tactical droid ordering his forces to execute Protocol 4.[1]

After some close-quarter combat in the city with Wyler dying to the droids, the north team managed to reach the city square where they then infiltrated the Bell Tower. There, the troopers were caught by surprise with commando droids ambushing them leading to Nova dying. To escape the ambush, Crosshair and Cody were pinned down by the commando droids at the staircase of the Bell Tower however managed to defeat many of the commando droids. During this battle, Crosshair was injured but convinced Cody that he could make the shot. Trusting Crosshair, Cody threw a puck as far as he could toward the tactical droid, allowing Cody to kill two commando droids and the tactical droid in one shot.[1]

When reaching the Upper Floor of the Bell Tower, they confronted Governor Tawni Ames with a blaster at Governor Grotton's head. With some persuasion, however, Ames let Grotton go. Immediately after being released, Grotton ordered Cody to kill her. Having promised Ames a peaceful resolution between her people and the Empire before Grotton's order, Cody was unable to kill her leading Crosshair to kill her instead. After Ames' death, Grotton ordered the two clones to hang her body at the city square.[1]

Ames' death led to the dissolution of the Desix Separatist holdout and the Imperial occupation of the planet. Distraught over what had transpired, Cody left with Crosshair and few clone troopers in a shuttle to the planet Coruscant where he deserted.[1]

  2. 2.0 2.1 2.2 Per the reasoning here, the seventh and eighth episodes of The Bad Batch Season 2, "The Clone Conspiracy" and "Truth and Consequences," can be placed in 18 BBY. Therefore, all Season 2 episodes proceeding "The Clone Conspiracy" occur between 19 BBY, which features the end of The Bad Batch Season 1 according to Star Wars: Timelines, and 18 BBY. The Galactic Empire, the formation of which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 19 BBY, sent Mayday's squad to Barton IV over a year prior to the events of the twelfth episode, "The Outpost." As it occurs over a year into the Imperial Era and is set shortly after the events of "Truth and Consequences," the events of "The Outpost" occur around 18 BBY. Following that logic, the ninth through eleventh episodes ("The Crossing" through "Metamorphosis") are also set around 18 BBY because they occur between the events of "Truth and Consequences" and "The Outpost." Finally, all season 2 episodes set after "The Outpost" occur shortly after its events, thereby placing those episodes around 18 BBY as well.
