Barton IV[3] was an icy planet where the Galactic Empire maintained a supply depot that stored armor and other equipment. The outpost was commanded by Clone Commander Mayday and his squad. When the squad's resources began to run low, Mayday put in a request for reinforcements, asking for more men and for new equipment, as the sensor beacons on the perimeter of the base were old and unreliable. It was not until many rotations later that a force led by Lieutenant Nolan and including the clone trooper CT-9904 "Crosshair" were sent to the outpost on the planet.[1]

Description[]

Barton IV was a frozen and barren planet covered in snow. Its terrain was mountainous and included caves. Avalanches were known to occur. Black ice vultures patrolled the skies in search of food[1] and at least one ice wyrm wandered underground near an Imperial supply depot, kept at bay only by high-frequency sensor beacons.[2]

History[]

In 19 BBY, after the Proclamation of the New Order, Clone Commander Mayday and a squad of at least eleven clone troopers which included Hexx and Veetch were sent by the Galactic Empire to guard a supply depot located on the planet. Over time equipment such as the sensor beacons degraded due to the conditions of the planet leading to multiple raids by local raiders from a hideout close to the depot. This caused Mayday to request the Empire for reinforcements however his request was denied.[1] By 18 BBY,[4] due to a lack of reinforcements, the depot was unguarded with only Mayday, Hexx, and Veetch remaining from the previous twelve clone troopers that were sent to guard the depot.[1]

Around 18 BBY, Lieutenant Nolan, CT-9904 "Crosshair," and three clone troopers arrived at the depot in a Nu-class transport shuttle to secure the cargo at the depot until week's end where it would be transferred offworld. Having to fight off local raiders who killed both Hexx and Veetch, Crosshair and Mayday made a last-ditch effort to eliminate their enemy, in which Mayday was mortally wounded. Helping the dying clone back to the depot, Crosshair begged Nolan to help him, but the officer dismissed Mayday as an expendable asset. As Mayday died, Crosshair decided to shoot Nolan, killing him. He would be arrested for treason and imprisoned.[1]

After Crosshair later escaped Imperial prison with the help of Omega, the two would be reunited with Clone Force 99. The squad would visit Barton IV to access the Imperial terminal there and decrypt an Imperial datapad. Accessing the depot, they would divert power away from the sensor beacons, leading to an encounter with a wyrm. They had to undergo a risky operation to lure the beast outside the perimeter and reactivate the beacons before they were able to depart the planet.[5]

  4. Per the reasoning here, the seventh and eighth episodes of The Bad Batch Season 2, "The Clone Conspiracy" and "Truth and Consequences," can be placed in 18 BBY. Therefore, all Season 2 episodes proceeding "The Clone Conspiracy" occur between 19 BBY, which features the end of The Bad Batch Season 1 according to Star Wars: Timelines, and 18 BBY. The Galactic Empire, the formation of which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 19 BBY, sent Mayday's squad to Barton IV over a year prior to the events of the twelfth episode, "The Outpost." As it occurs over a year into the Imperial Era and is set shortly after the events of "Truth and Consequences," the events of "The Outpost" occur around 18 BBY. Following that logic, the ninth through eleventh episodes ("The Crossing" through "Metamorphosis") are also set around 18 BBY because they occur between the events of "Truth and Consequences" and "The Outpost." Finally, all season 2 episodes set after "The Outpost" occur shortly after its events, thereby placing those episodes around 18 BBY as well.
