"Wait a minute! This is a Hosnian Prime ship! […] Most Hosnian ships keep a data log backup of any transmissions sent and received from the ship. It's a feature that only comes with luxury ships like this."
―Kazuda Xiono, to BB-8 about the data log backup[1]

A data log backup was a type of communications equipment used in luxury racers that recorded all transmissions sent and received from a ship. By 34 ABY, a pilot from the planet Hosnian Prime had one installed on their backup racer. That year, the Resistance spy Kazuda Xiono borrowed the racer to participate in the All Aces Battle Royale race and recovered the First Order operative Marnia Un'la'na's transmission from the vessel's backup.

Kazuda Xiono retrieved a First Order transmission from a backup racer's data log backup.

By 34 ABY,[2] many ships from the planet Hosnian Prime used the devices, including a backup racer owned by one of the world's native pilots.[1] That year,[2] the pilot brought their racer to the supertanker fuel depot Colossus to participate in the All Aces Battle Royale race.[1]

The Resistance spy Kazuda Xiono borrowed the vessel to participate in the event and used it to intercept a data cache sent by the Twi'lek informant Marnia Un'la'na by recording it with a Republic encryption recorder. However,[1] the ace pilot Hype Fazon's ship—the Green Ace[3]—collided with the racer, forcing the Resistance spy to crash land. Though Xiono was initially saddened about the recorder's destruction, after contemplating, he realized that the data log backup of his borrowed racer would have stored Un'la'na's cache and told the astromech droid BB-8 of his revelation. The Resistance spy then recovered her transmission, wiped the ship's internal systems, and returned the vessel to its owner's hangar.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

A data log backup appeared in "All Aces Battle Royale," a comic story written by Kevin Burke and Chris "Doc" Wyatt and illustrated by Valentina Pinto. The story was published by IDW Publishing in the sixteenth issue of the 2017 Star Wars Adventures comic series,[1] which was released on December 19, 2018.[4]
