The Chant of Resurrection was an immensely powerful and sinister spell used to temporarily reanimate the dead. Of magick origin, it manifested as a greenish mist channeled from or through a glowing orb/crystalline object and was required to be spoken in a special language. Though powerful, the spell's effects would last only as long as the caster was active; should they cease maintaining it or be killed whilst using the spell, the undead would become immobile corpses once more.^[1]

History[]

The incantation was used by Old Daka, the eldest of the Dathomiri Nightsisters, to aid the Nightsisters' forces against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. However, during the battle, Daka was killed by General Grievous, causing the undead to return to their original state. The living Nightsisters, who lost most of their forces, were then quickly overwhelmed and massacred.^[1] Several years later, Merrin, one of the last surviving Nightsisters, used the spell after the former Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis visited Dathomir.^[3] Years after, Merrin would once more make use of the spell to aid her and the Mantis crew on one of their missions against the Haxion Brood.^[4]

The Great Mothers of Peridea's Dathomiri fortress were able to use the spell to revive volunteers from Grand Admiral Thrawn's Night Trooper legion in order to delay Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren, and Ezra Bridger from interfering in their plans. The zombified stormtroopers pushed on despite sustaining injuries and were only stopped when the trio of Jedi locked them behind heavy doors, which the troopers were forced to cut through. In the end, the zombies met their end when Thrawn, in a desperate attempt to hold back Tano and company, ordered the Chimaera to fire on the Dathomiri fortress. While Wren and Tano escaped death aboard their ship T-6 1974, while Bridger had already safely boarded the Chimaera, the undead Night Troopers were caught in the destruction.^[5]
