Chancey Yarrow was a female human scientist, trader, and pirate who lived during the High Republic Era. An expert on theoretical hyperspace physics, Chancey was expelled from the Academy of Carida just before earning her doctorate after it was discovered she had lied about using research funds to try and build a gravity well projector. Subsequently, Chancey became a hauler for the Byne Guild, having a daughter, Sylvestri, during this time. She developed connections to the Nihil Tempest Runner Lourna Dee and the powerful Graf family, who gave her a chance to work on the Gravity's Heart space station in the Berenge sector. With the hopes of achieving her dream project, Chancey faked her own death to work on the Gravity's Heart in secret, leaving her daughter Sylvestri to believe she had been killed by Nihil raiders.[2]
Yarrow organized the Lastelle Collective and petitioned for a deregulation and opening of private hyperspace lanes. Following the destruction of the Gravity's Heart, the Grafs prepared Yarrow a laboratory in the Hynestian sector. In exchange, Yarrow promised the Grafs an information broker, who turned out to be a young member of the Nihil named Nan.[2]
Yarrow and Nan were eventually captured and taken to the Starlight Beacon, where they were imprisoned by the Jedi. During the Nihil's sabotage of the station, she was freed alongside Nan. She realized that the station was plummeting into Eiram's atmosphere and attempted to repair the positional thrusters. The scientist was discovered by Elzar Mann, who mistook her for a Nihil saboteur and bisected her with his lightsaber.[5]
Biography[]
Student at Carida[]
In her youth, Chancey Yarrow attended the Academy of Carida as a theoretical hyperspace tactician. She was a student of the Gungan Thaddeus Wolk, who led and guided the hyperspace theory and philosophy department at the academy. Yarrow approached Professor Wolk after one of his lectures, challenging the assumptions of her colleagues and the professors in the department on their theories regarding the true nature of hyperspace. While Professor Wolk wrote a letter of introduction for Yarrow to the Ministry of Transportation, Yarrow instead decided to continue her studies.[2]
Yarrow developed a theory on artificial gravity wells and how they could be used to force ships out of hyperspace at opportune moments, fusing together Yarrow's learnings on battle tactics and her passion for hyperspace theory. As hyperspace tactics during times of conflict were typically passive tactics as opposed to violent, and due to concerns regarding the energy and calculations needed to create a theoretical artificial gravity well, the Academy of Carida believed that Yarrow had gone mad in her enamorment with hyperspace theory. Yarrow was denied a research grant for work on a gravity well projector no fewer than three times, before lying about a change in research directions, which allowed her to secure a grant meant to lead to an increase in the energy economy of hyperspace jump drives. When it was discovered she had lied on her research grant application and how she was proceeding her work on a gravity well in spite of her previous grant denials, Yarrow was subsequently dismissed from the academy just before earning her doctorate.[2]
