"Stay steady! The weapons on these platforms are oriented away from the planet so stray shots can't hit the surface. If we can just get past them, we should be—"
―Bryen Rowne's last words[2]

Bryen Rowne was a human pilot who served as a captain in the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War against the Galactic Empire. One of the Alliance's top pilots, Rowne volunteered to be part of a team of four ships to undertake an attack run on the Imperial capital planet Coruscant between 3 ABY and 4 ABY.

Rowne flew an RZ-1 A-wing interceptor alongside the Twi'lek Freyta Smyth and the Sullustan Nien Nunb as well as the human Lando Calrissian and the Wookiee Chewbacca, who crewed the YT-1300 light freighter Millennium Falcon. The force infiltrated the Coruscant system before attempting to race past the planetary defenses. Although the mission was successful, Rowne perished during the attack run.

Biography[]

"The Emperor and Vader might be off their game, but that doesn't mean the Empire is suddenly weak. They have countless officers, pilots, and soldiers."
―Bryen Rowne, to Leia Organa[2]

Rowne attending the briefing

Byren Rowne was a human who came to serve the Alliance to Restore the Republic. During the Galactic Civil War between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire, Rowne was both a captain and one of the Alliance's best pilots.[2] Between 3 ABY and 4 ABY,[1] Rowne joined a team of elite pilots assembled by General Leia Organa alongside the Twi'lek Freyta Smyth, the Sullustan Nien Nunb, the human Lando Calrissian, and the Wookiee Chewbacca. Aboard the rebel flagship Home One, Organa revealed to the team that the Alliance had an incredible opportunity to strike against the Empire, due to Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader dealing with an anomaly in the Force, which meant they would not be attending the Empire with their usual level of focus.[2]

It was then that Rowne spoke up, questioning whether the fact mattered, as the Empire still had immeasurable forces outside of[2] the Sith Lords.[3] Organa agreed with the captain's point but maintained that they needed to capitalize on the unique opportunity with a daring mission. She then revealed the plan, which was for the small team to carry out an aerial assault on the Imperial capital planet Coruscant. For the mission, Rowne piloted a RZ-1 A-wing interceptor alongside Smyth and Nunb, while Calrissian and Chewbacca flew the YT-1300 light freighter known as the Millennium Falcon. The ships entered the Coruscant system and were able to sneak into the Coruscant approach lane at security checkpoint Delta-Three while hidden aboard the supply ship Pikka's Pride. From there, the team exited the transport and swooped towards the planet.[2]

Rowne moments before they were shot down

As Imperial forces intercepted them, Rowne was killed by fire from an orbital platform before the rebels reached Coruscant. Smyth also perished during the mission, leaving Calrissian, Chewbacca, and Nunb as the only survivors. As Calrissian returned from the mission, he spoke with Organa over comms about the loss of Rowne and Smyth, mourning that the two pilots had been needlessly lost. Organa likewise lamented their deaths, saying that they were both good pilots and good people, but told Calrissian that the mission had been accomplished, as the pilots had successfully struck at the Imperial capital and damaged a statue of the Emperor.[2]

Personality and traits[]

"We lost Freyta Smyth and Bryen Rowne."
"Ah. They were good people and incredible pilots."
―Lando Calrissian and Leia Organa[2]

A human, Bryen Rowne had green eyes, light skin, and brown hair that was graying[2] by the time between 3 ABY and 4 ABY.[1] Rowne's slicked-back hair was accompanied by a mustache and beard. General Organa regarded them as both a talented pilot and a good person.[2]
