"Simply open this little box of yours so I can get the information from this crystal and your suffering will come to an end."
"You will…never…get me to…unlock the…holocron."
"Unfortunately I don't have time to discuss this with you. Hit him again, full power."
―Cad Bane and Bolla Ropal — (audio) Listen (file info)[3]

Bolla Ropal was a male Rodian who served as a Jedi Master[3] and Jedi General[6] in the Jedi Order during the Clone Wars.

Biography[]

When he was a Jedi Initiate, he had a favorite spoon that the other younglings constantly stole from him as a game. After Ropal and his fellows moved up to the rank of Padawans, the spoon ended up in Obi-Wan Kenobi's possession. When Ropal was assigned to a Jedi Master, he spent extensive time in the Jedi Archives researching holocrons.[5] In 41 BBY,[7] Ropal was having a meal with his fellow Padawans when a baby demon squid hidden in Kenobi's soup attacked Kenobi. As Kenobi panicked, Ropal burst out in laughter as his prank succeeded. Confronted by Kenobi, Ropal explained that he had antidote for the venom and Kenobi was never in any real danger. He continued to laugh as Kenobi left with his master, Qui-Gon Jinn, to go meditate. Later that day, Ropal was walking through the Jedi Temple when he almost collided with Count Dooku who was visiting the Temple. The Rodian returned to the Padawan dining hall where he met with Prie, Siri Tachi, and several other Padawans. When Kenobi arrived, Ropal brought up the rumor that Jinn might leave the Jedi Order which upset Kenobi. Ropal followed Kenobi out into the hall and let him know that Jinn hadn't chosen Kenobi as a Padawan but took him on as requested by Master Yoda. He explained that no one would hold it against Kenobi if his Master left the Order.[5]

Ropal's body, as discovered by Republic forces

Ropal acted as the keeper of the Kyber memory crystal during the war, a crystal which contained data on the identities of Force-sensitive children across the galaxy. After bounty hunter Cad Bane stole the holocron containing the crystal from the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant, he captured Ropal on the planet Devaron and then tortured him in an attempt to force the Rodian to open the holocron. Ropal refused and died during the torture, although Bane later managed to force the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker to open the holocron.[3]

Personality and traits[]

Bolla Ropal was very curious and mischievous. He liked to pull pranks on his fellow padawans and was never happier than when he was examining a holocron.[5]
